High up the list of disturbing aspects of New York City life is the general disregard people have for emergency vehicles. Few drivers, or even pedestrians, will make much effort to clear the path or wait at a green light or take any evident notice of a wailing siren.
So it’s hardly extraordinary to see a cabbie fail to get out of the way of an ambulance. Today, though, I saw a cabbie pull to the side of Broadway, discharge passengers, then pull back into traffic directly in the path of a howling ambulance just a couple car lengths back. And no, there was no room for the ambulance to get around.
I don’t know why I wrote down the medallion, but I did: 6L28.
