ApolloCon was a bit more fun for me in 2015 than in 2005. However, it definitely feels like an old-timers club that isn't doing a good job of marketing itself to younger members. The youngsters who were there seemed to be mostly children of repeat attendees.
My first impression of seeing the pocket program: "Wow, this is a very large size for a pocket program, and that's a pretty big font, too."
Actual complaint that got seconded at the feedback panel: "The font in the signs and the pocket program was way too small for us to read."
The location was much better this year. The local amenities were greatly improved, and the consuite was epic.
I got a couple of shoulder days on either side, and managed to eat at George's and Molina's before the con started, then spent time hanging out with the
gryphoness,
slvrdragon and
mfc2_tx at the convention, then had dinner with
theglen at a Fuzzy's pizza. The next day, I had supper with the Carpenters at the Goode Company BBQ. I enjoyed kolaches for breakfast each day except for the last morning.
The flights were smooth. I missed Houston greatly, both the people and the cuisine. I could have done without some of the traffic.
I might find another convention to use as my excuse to visit Houston in the future, but I'm not sure which one.
