Because I've been updating this journal less frequently over the years, I think it's not giving an impression of my life as much as it used to do. So, this is what my typical week looks like at this point in my life:
Sunday: Recovery from the week before. I sleep in (if I can) and take care of upkeep concerns: laundry, dishes, pharmacy visits for prescription refills once a month, watch some TV shows, refill my daily pill dispensers for the week, and head to bed.
Monday - Friday: Wake up and get to work between 7 and 8 am. On Monday through Thursday, I wear khaki slacks and a company-provided polo shirt. My usual rotation is magenta on Monday, blue on Tuesday, purple on Wednesday, and black on Thursday. On Fridays, we're allowed to dress more casually so I'm typically in jeans and one of my t-shirts. I take a sweater with me regardless of the time of year because my latest office is very cold and I have no influence over the thermostat setting. My office, like most downstairs in the building, is on the same air conditioning control as the conference room and main hardware for the building. Work until about 11:30, check my blood glucose level, and head to lunch. Usually, that will be a sandwich or something like that, which I'll bring back and eat at my desk, then go back to work for the rest of the afternoon. Other times, not more than once a week so far, I'll eat out at a nearby restaurant instead. Fatz Cafe has a good meal consisting of a salad, a couple of pork chops, a baked sweet potato and some apple slices (plus some rolls) that is delicious and not too bad for me. One of my coworkers loves the rolls so I usually remember to bring a few spares for her.
I can leave at 5, and then I usually head straight home. There are two main routes available to me, but the one that would usually be quicker has had construction on it for several months, so I usually take the other, slower one for now. When I get home, I check my mailbox and pull any especially egregious weeds from my front yard. At night, I watch a few favorite YouTube channels, do a little prep work for our Saturday games. Monday nights are trash nights; I gather the trash and put it in the trash bin, but I don't take it outside until Tuesday morning since it won't be collected overnight. I watch a little TV now during the week. I watch hockey if it involves the Kings or if the game seems especially interesting to me for some other reason... which means that anything not including Crosby or Ovechkin, because there's no need to watch their games, since the NHL is marketed such that every highlights package on NHL Tonight, the online news sources, or any national broadcast of another game will include a summary of those games.
I try to do a little preparation work for my next session as GM every night, but sometimes I have more luck than on others.
Saturday: I sleep in, have breakfast, do some cleaning, and try to get in last-minute preparations for the games. Games are supposed to start around 1:30 pm, but some gamers show up quite early, most are right about on time, and some are usually late. We game until suppertime, then some go home and others (usually Ramón) stick around for pizza or a sandwich and then a movie from my collection.
Every morning starts with blood glucose checks and an insulin injection. Breakfast, supper, and bedtime each have a bunch of pills that come with them.
The trips I take every now and then are ways of breaking me out of this routine. Frankly, I need that.
