Thanksgiving & Stuff

My parents visited me for Thanksgiving. It was the first time since 2009 where I didn't have to fly across the country for the week. Instead, they showed up and whisked me away to Edisto Beach, SC, for the purposes of visiting Charleston, SC. Unfortunately, it wasn't as convenient for visiting as they'd thought and we only spent 1 day in Charleston itself. That included a visit to Ft. Sumter, where the opening shots of the Civil War were fired. Then we got on a bus tour, and saw many sites in the historical district... from the outside. This would have been good for a first day, followed by a second actually visiting the museums that our bus driver/tour guide pointed out to us. The rest of the trip had some good restaurants but a lot of tedium and uncomfortable beds.

The dinner itself was very good, and I kept Dad from bugging Mom in my kitchen by having him help me fix a broken sprinkler and hang curtains in my office and all three bedrooms.

Dad is not good at remembering to take his medications, and he's not always good at remembering whether he's already taken them. He doesn't watch his blood sugars, and they seemed to vary widely while he was here. He skipped lunch on the way to the airport and I hear he got dangerously low on the flight back to Seattle.

Gaming-wise, our newest member has stepped up and started to run an All Flesh Must Be Eaten (AFMBE) campaign. This is awesome because Joe is gone more or less every other weekend and I'm too busy to prep fully each week like I did when I was a kid. Heck, every other week is sometimes more than I can cope with these days. I'm running 7th Sea again, and we're at the time of year where Joe's not running anything because his big holiday trip is looming.

My 2 big gripes right now are arithmetic and dice. These players seem to have trouble with spending experience points. I won't name names, but it's a recurring problem and not isolated to one player. I gave each player a set of 10d10 back in September. Several of them still forget to bring dice to the game.

friends, 7th sea, dice, diabetes, family
