In late-notice mode (as usual), it looks like I'll be going to
SIEGE in Atlanta, GA on the company's dime, but Saturday only. Unlike last year (when a different honcho organized things) I'm allowed to travel to Atlanta on my own instead of in a rental car shared by the other folks coming from our office, but not to charge for it. It's happening at a Marriott hotel, so I've reserved rooms for Friday and Saturday. I'll make my way to Atlanta on Friday after work, do some stuff, and then check into the hotel that night, and I can visit a Fry's Electronics on the way home on Sunday.
I'm not going to Alaska next year. I'll put it off a little bit because a) hotel prices in Anchorage look like they're going to be $50 more per night than they were the last two years at the same time of year, and b) I want to save up a bit more.
A week ago, my AC pan rusted through and water leaked from that through to the ceiling of the laundry room. The AC unit seems to have been fixed but I haven't managed to get anyone in to estimate the cost of the repairs to the ceiling. I've had a bad cough this week that got really bad yesterday evening, but has been better today (so far). If it gets worse tomorrow, I'll call my doctor and get an appointment to get it checked out.
After SIEGE, I'll need just 7 more nights this year spent at Marriott brand hotels to qualify for "gold" level loyalty rewards. I already have PTO/holiday combos at work for a 3 day weekend for Columbus Day and a 4 day weekend for Veterans' Day... that'd be 7. I'd need to find things to do nearby for those. I know that there's a convention that some folks I know are going to in Wichita over that 4 day weekend, but I'm not going to drive from here to Kansas and back in November. There's a gaming convention called MACE in Charlotte, NC that weekend. That's only about 175 miles away, so I might do that.
In 2015, instead of heading to Alaska, I think I might make a short visit to Houston between February and June, because it's been a few years since I was last out there.
A few days ago, I switched car insurance companies so that I could get a discount on my homeowner's insurance policy. I'm also getting (on paper) a lot more car insurance coverage for just $5 more than the old company was going to charge me.
