Been busy!

Things are ramping up again at work, and at home I've been doing more than the usual amount of housework and yardwork to try to make sure I will be coming home to a nicer looking place when I get back from GenCon next month.

Shortly after I got new tires for my car, Joe went through an even more expensive set of car repairs: new catalytic converters, a new O2 sensor, and a cracked pipe in his engine. He's a bit short of cash right now, but he'll have some money to spend at the con as long as Laura pays her rent on time. Which she won't be doing, exactly. She's going to give him a check that he can't cash until the 3rd. But on that day we'll be waking up in Chattanooga and driving to Indianapolis... so we've scouted out branches in Nashville so that he can cash it along the way.

I finally got fed up with the barren spots in my backyard and in the front yard near my gate. I put out some shade resistant grass seed, and it's coming up, but only in patches. Still, it's an improvement.

I spent Independence Day at Brian's place (as usual). I've become the go-to guy to bring sodas to this party, so I kept up that tradition. Attendance was lower than last year. I stuck with my program as best as I could. I wound up learning how not to do it from Brian's father, who is also diabetic but does not seem to make any effort to control his sugar level.

I've decided I want to run a supers RPG again, and I thought I'd dust off my old V&V collection. Joe's a little wary of old-school games since I ran them through AD&D 1st edition a while back, but I convinced them that old doesn't necessarily imply Gygaxian psychology. Eventually, I proposed running a one-shot to show them the system. I sent out the invitations, and nobody said they couldn't make it.

Ramón called Joe on the morning of the session to remind us that he mentioned a couple of weeks ago that he'd be in Puerto Rico for a while. Fair enough, but he's got my number, the game is run at my place, and I'm the GM.

Jonathan just plain didn't show up, but we kind of expect that from him now.

Jen went out partying into the wee hours of the night on Friday, then woke up late, and remembered that she hadn't done any laundry at all that week and had nothing to wear.

Joe called up and informed me of Jen's situation and said he'd be over to try the system out, after grabbing a late (by my standards, at least), lunch.

I ditched the scenario I'd done and just ran him through character generation and put him through his paces, taking down a gang of ten guys in a dark alley. He didn't seem to mind it too much, and then we watched some episodes of Archer, and then he split before dinner time.

So, I got to play a little bit, but the snacks I'd bought to feed a group of 5 wound up being consumed by just me over the course of the next day or two. This kind of thing has happened before. I need to find more reliable players, so that when Jen and Jon ditch at the last minute I'm not left scrambling.
