The third season of Being Human has been sitting in my To-Watch folder for months and months but I haven't gotten around to watching it after the first episode because the season pilot didn't pique my interest so much. I wasn't into the Mitchell/Annie angle, and I didn't like the direction the show seemed to be taking regarding them. Plus, those purgatory scenes were dragging! Definitely not a good way to open the season.
However, since I heard that the fourth season has started airing in the UK, I thought I'd marathon the rest of the third season episodes this weekend, just to see if I want to keep watching. And holy shit, that was some season! The Mitchell/Annie thing was actually kind of funny at times. I LOL'ed so hard at that scene when Mitch was asking George how he and Annie would do the *insert fist pumping motion.* On account of Annie being a ghost and all. So cute! XD
The season ender episode was pretty heavy though. Here are some excerpts.
(WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AND ANGSTARAMA!!!)
(After Mitchell takes George hostage so that Tom will let Herrick go.)
Mitchell: All right, listen to me. I swear I'm gonna kill him, I just need to find out something first.
George: Shut up.
Mitchell: Listen, I know that you've been through a lot, okay?
George: He killed my Nina. And you killed all of those people. You don't say my name now. You don't even look at me now. You are not my friend. You better go. Your boss is waiting.

Oh, that scene was worlds of hurt. Being Human is a story of the very human relationship between three non-human beings. An intriguing premise by itself, but what kept me hooked most of all is the unlikely friendship between two of them: George, a werewolf, and Mitchell, a vampire. They are supposed to be natural enemies, but are closer to each other than their own kind. (What can I say, I adore frenemy plots. ♥ And in case you were wondering: No, I don't ship them. I like their relationship as is.)

George: Where's Herrick?
Mitchell: Dead.
George: How dead?
Mitchell: Proper dead. I killed him.
George: What do you see when you look at me?
Mitchell: My friend.
George: That's good --
Mitchell: A werewolf.
George: Okay.
Mitchell: I want to pull your spine out through your mouth.
George: What's happened to you?
Mitchell: It won.
George: So who am I talking to?
Mitchell: An echo.
George: What if you ran away? To Scotland.
Mitchell: I'd kill people in Scotland.
George: What if we kept you in the attic?
Mitchell: Our success rate there is less than a hundred percent.
George: What if I forgave you?
Mitchell: That's not your right. I didn't hurt anyone you know.
George: No. But you made me complicit.
***
George: Is this really happening?
Mitchell: This is a good thing you're doing. The stuff I just said, it's not true. Remember once I told you that anything that happened would have happened a lot sooner and a lot worse if it wasn't for you two. (To Nina) You'll look after him. You'll look after the baby. I guess I'm finally doing the decent thing.
Nina: Then... this is what we'll remember.
Mitchell: Yeah.

I honestly really can't like Nina. She's like a fourth wheel to the trio. She has no right to have a say regarding Mitchell's fate because Mitch is not her friend. *grumble*

And I won't even hide this last excerpt behind a cut:
George: I'm doing this because I love you.
Mitchell: I know.

T____T
Just when you think Mitchell has gotten a season-ender reprieve with the arrival of the Old Ones, the writers surprise you with this, which happens so fast that it's over before it really sinks in. Being Human is the story of Annie, Mitchell, and George.
With the loss of Mitchell (and also George, who apparently didn't return for the new season as well) also comes the end of this story. However good their replacement characters are, it just won't be the same. They will be different characters, telling a very different story. Maybe given the chance, I will learn to like this new spin-off storyline. At this time though, I have neither the energy nor the interest to find out.
