Lore was practically bouncing as she walked -well, almost ran - to meet Zell by the front doors. Okay, she was excited. But she had big news that she wanted to share. She had passed her SeeD exam. Not just ( Read more... )

Lore nodded. From anyone else, it might have been a strange thing to ask. But she had just watched Zell squirm all over despite the fact that someone was trying to put a needle into his skin in a very intricate pattern, and knew it was a serious request.

"You can count on me," she answered dryly. "I'll sit on you if I have to." Though she said it absolutely deadpan, she looked up at him with a hint of humor in her eyes. The differences in their size alone made the thought amusing to her.

"Alright!" Zell replied with a thumbs up. "Thanks! Though, I'm kinda hopin' you won't have to go that far..." He slipped his hands into his back pockets as he continued to walk towards Garden, hoping that if his hands were behind his back, maybe he'd be less antsy.

Lore giggled at the way Zell acted like he took her seriously. Zell was such a trip. "Do you drink, like, a ton of coffee or something?" she teased. "Are you hopped up on caffeine right now?"

"Caffeine? Huh, that pop might'a had some in it," he thought. "I didn't really check." It took a moment for him to make the connection between Lore's comment and his seemingly constant supply of energy. "But no, I'm just always like this!" he added with a sheepish grin. "It's natural, I guess."

Lore tried to keep her face serious, but she couldn't help but smile a little when Zell finally realized she was kidding with him. She tapped one finger against her chin as if she were thinking. "Let me guess...you stay up for like 20 hours at a time, don't you? I bet that made studying easy."

Zell chuckled a bit. "I don't really stay up all that late," he said. "But yeah, I guess I did have enough energy for studying." He quickly added, "Not that I studied all the time." Zell did study more than people realized, but not to the point where he was a nerd or anything, and he didn't want Lore to start thinking he was one either.

"I'm this close to being done with all that!" Lore exclaimed in excitement, putting her thumb and forefinger up so that they were nearly touching in an invisible measurement. The written test had worried her a lot more than the field exam. She was pretty confident that she had the skills, if only she could get to the field exam to use them. Now that she had passed the written exam, she had a lot more faith that passing the field test was only a short time away. "I can't believe this might be my last semester as a student!"

"Man, it's crazy how much work ya gotta do as a Cadet," Zell stated. "When you're a SeeD, it's like SOOOOOOO easy! No tests, nothin'! They just give ya a mission, and ya do it, and get paid. It's great!"

He slapped his fist on his wrist then exclaimed, "We should have a party! Ya know, when you pass the field exam!"

Lore giggled. "Zell, they have a whole ball," she pointed out. Then again, she wasn't going to argue with an excuse to have a party. "But we could do something," she added. "I like parties." She had a feeling Rinoa would be up for it.

Oh yeah! Zell had nearly forgotten about the ball! "Well, yeah, but that's gonna be this big formal thing for everyone," Zell clarified. "We can have, like, a 'Congrats Lore!' celebration or somethin'!" Scratching the side of his head, Zell flashed a wide grin at Lore.

Zell's enthusiastic smile made her smile back. "Okay," she agreed. "It'll be fun!" She paused, then added curiously, "You are going to the ball, right?" Maybe guys didn't like that sort of stuff. They had reached the Garden yard. It wouldn't be long now. She glanced down at her bandage to make sure it was still holding up, but it didn't look like it was bleeding any worse than it had been.

Dressing up in his SeeD uniform wasn't something Zell ever looked forward to; it was itchy, and not as comfortable to move in. But still, the SeeD ball was fun, even if it was formal. "Yep, I'll be there!" Zell replied. "I'm not all that great at that kind o' dancing, but it's fun to eat the food and hang out with people an' stuff."

Food! She should have known. "You didn't take Social Dancing?" she teased. The class was notorious for being girl-centric. One year, the professor had even tried bribing male students from another class to join for extra credit.

Zell gave Lore a look that said, "You must be kidding." "Ehh... no," he replied. "I ain't really into that stuff." He went to rub at the back of his neck, but jumped with a small squeak and quickly stopped once he felt the bandage.

That, of course, didn't really surprise Lore. Trying to picture Zell learning a foxtrot just about broke her mind.

When Zell jumped, Lore winced. "Are you okay?" That must have hurt. Hers didn't hurt too bad. Zell had been right, it felt more annoying than painful. But she wasn't about to try poking it to see how it felt.

"Oh, yeah, I'm fine!!" Zell waved reassuringly at her. "I was just worried I might rip off my bandage by accident." Zell's tattoo wasn't bothering him as much as his first tattoo, but then again, his first tattoo was on his face, which naturally would be more easily irritated.
