Lore was practically bouncing as she walked -well, almost ran - to meet Zell by the front doors. Okay, she was excited. But she had big news that she wanted to share. She had passed her SeeD exam. Not just ( Read more... )

Lore giggled, watching Zell. He was high energy. It almost seemed to contrast his build. He was short, but he was thick and muscular. Even more, Lore realized now that he was shirtless, than she had thought. There was something humorous about seeing such a broad, tough-looking guy get so excited. "Don't squirm too much, chief," she warned teasingly.

She put her hat back on, eyeing the bandage on her left arm. She wanted to take it off and look, but she knew she wasn't supposed to.

Zell was right, it hadn't really hurt. It stung a little, and now it felt a little funny. Sort of raw, like a carpet burn. But it wasn't terribly painful; she hadn't wanted to faint or cry or anything nearly as dramatic as she expected.

"Did your mom like yours?" she asked.

Arms hugging the back of the chair, Zell eagerly bounced his leg. "Well, she was kinda against the idea," Zell replied. "But she let me get it anyways, after I sat through this loooooong speech on how it's permanent and all that, and then she brought me here to get it!"

Chuck finally started working on Zell's tattoo. Zell couldn't help but giggle slightly. Not that it tickled... Of course the needles didn't tickle. It was more a mix of the excitement and the strange feeling that resulted in Zell's giggle.

"That's awesome that she let you do it," Lore said. "I don't think anyone's parents really WANT them to go get a tattoo." She tried to imagine her sister Dolmi's reaction - Dolmi would love it. She doubted her mother would be pleased, but Lore wasn't TRYING to upset anyone...she just...did what she did.

When Zell giggled, Lore almost lost it. She hid her mouth behind her hand, trying hard not to laugh. But Zell, bouncing around and giggling like a little kid, was just too much, and a laugh escaped. She clamped her mouth shut, until the urge had passed.

Noticing that Lore was laughing at his excitement, Zell's giggle turned into a laugh. He knew how ridiculous he probably looked, but that never stopped him. Zell was in an excellent mood, so he had no problem laughing with Lore at himself. "Geez, Zell, sit still!" Chuck commanded.

"Sorry, sorry," Zell apologized, trying to calm himself down. Taking a glance at Lore, he asked, "How's it look so far?"

Lore laughed when Chuck admonished Zell. She made a 'tsk, tsk' motion at him, mouthing the words 'you got in trouble'!

"It looks awesome," she told him seriously. "You're gonna have to walk around Garden without a shirt on just to show it off," she teased. It really was too cool to cover up.

That was most definitely not a good idea to have planted in Zell's head. As soon as those words left Lore's mouth, Zell's eyes widened. "OOH, MAN!" he exclaimed. "I didn't think of that! GREAT IDEA!"

Lore laughed in surprise. "Ha, no way?" she asked. But he did sound serious.. She wondered what the faculty would say to that, but the idea of Zell strutting around was too hilarious to discourage. The more she thought about it, the more it made her laugh. "You have to do it, Zell!" At least he looked good without a shirt.

Since there was nobody around to discourage him, and one person who was, in fact, supporting him, there was no way he could decline, especially since thinking of people's reactions highly amused him. Walking around Garden without his shirt had evolved from an amusing idea to a necessity. "Bet I can go one whole week without wearking a shirt!" Zell said with a mischievous grin.

Lore couldn't stop laughing. "A week?" she replied. "I don't know..." she said in fake disbelief, egging him on. "I don't think you can!"

Zell most certainly viewed that as a challenge he could not refuse! "Oh, yeah? You wanna bet?" he playfully challenged. "If I can do it, then you owe me a hot dog. If I'm wrong, then I'll get you a hot dog," he suggested before quickly adding on, "or something else, if you don't want a hot dog."

"You're on!" Lore agreed. "But you gotta do it when the skin heals up in a couple days. Like, Monday," she said. "This Monday to next Monday." Secretly, she was just trying to see if she could get him to go through the entire Garden Festival still on his bet.

"Yeah, yeah, nobody wants to see ink oozin' or anything," Zell agreed. A light bulb suddenly went off in his brain. "Hey! Isn't that gonna be the weekend of the Garden Festival?! SWEET!" There were gonna be TONS of people there! The more he thought about it, the wider Zell grinned. This was gonna be SO COOL!

Throughout Zell and Lore's converstaion, Chuck merely rolled his eyes and said nothing. After living in the same town as Zell for so long, Chuck was no longer surprised by such antics.

Lore laughed and shook her head when she realized that Zell was actually ENCOURAGED by doing this during the Garden Festival, but she also wasn't terribly surprised. She should have known better than to think it would have put him off - anyone volunteering to spend a week walking around shirtless in the first place wasn't exactly shy.

She couldn't wait to take credit - or at least, half the credit - for this brilliant plan. "This is gonna be the most memorable festival EVER," she agreed.

Finally, Chuck finished Zell's tattoo. "Man, I can't wait to see looks on everyone's faces," Zell chuckled as he bounced off the chair and tried to examine his back in a mirror. "Kickass!" he beamed. Zell waited for Chuck to cover his tattoo with gauze, then put his shirt back on.

Lore looked down at her gauze again, still dying to look underneath. As she was paying Chuck, she commented with a smirk, "Can you just see everyone's expression when they start showing people around Garden, and you're just walking around like you do this every day?"

"Maaan, I'm either gonna scare everyone away, or get more people to join Garden," Zell chuckled. When he saw Lore starting to pay Chuck, Zell stopped her and told Chuck not to take her money. "Your first tattoo," he said with a smile, "is on me." He pulled out his wallet and paid for both tattoos.
