This scary critter was right outside my house a few days ago. In fact, the spiders seem to be everywhere. There's no need to decorate for Halloween with that going on!

Rest easy, Mindy. We had one of those too...see?

They are called Argiope spiders, and are just a common garden spider. Although really big and look like the perfect extra for a Hollywood horror flick, they're harmless. They can't see very well at all, and if knocked out of their webs they crawl really, really slow. When I spotted her she scared the crap out of me. But once I'd done a little research on her, Angel and I named her Racquel (hee...Racquel the Arachnid) and enjoyed seeing her outside.

How funny that I'd never seen a spider like this before, and not only have we had one grace our house, now you guys have one too!

Hmmm...they do seem to be out now. I saw this one and then a smaller one just like it only a few feet away. They are interesting...I'd just sure hate to find one in my bed or anything. LOL. Spiders are just all over outside right now (mostly big brown ones), but I have a big field in front of my house so that probably makes it worse. They just creep me out so much and I'm so scared of walking into a web and having them fall on me.

These guys make their homes in tall grass (from what I've read). Racquel was among my lilies of the valley. But yeah...if she were to drop on me? I'd mess my pants for sure! :-)

We've had these crazy brown spiders around here too...they build a web and live in it for only a couple of days before moving on to a different spot. Kinda weird. Heh...is 2008 the year of the spider? -)
