A few extra mouths to feed

I had a pretty productive day considering we had a few things come up that weren't expected.

We now have a stray, skinny little beagle sleeping on our front porch. I have no idea where he came from but it looks like he's been lost a while. David pulled several big, nasty ticks off of him. We gave him a bowl of food and water and a towel to sleep on, and he seems pretty content. The kids went outside earlier and threw a tennis ball into the yard and he had a lot of fun playing with that. He's incredibly friendly and I think he'd make a great pet for someone. (Rachel has given him the temporary name of Buddy.) I don't know if he was dumped off or if he has an owner that's looking for him. He wasn't wearing a collar, but I'm going to ask around before we try to find another home for him. I'm sure Biscuit and Bijou will be very glad to see him gone!

The only problem is that he kept chasing away our.....stray cat (now named either Daisy or Timmy). Yes, we had one of those show up today too. Rachel put cat food out by the edge of the woods but whenever it would come out to eat, Buddy the stray dog would run over there and scare it. Our last stray cat is now living at my in-law's house and word is that she's pregnant. We didn't even take the cat to their house; she got there on her own by crossing two roads and a field. Honestly, I don't know what we're going to do with all these animals! I always end up feeding them and trying to find homes for them. Several years ago we had a cat show up and we tried to nurse it back to health. Unfortunately, it really was starved and it died the very next day. I don't ever want to see that happen again if I can possibly prevent it.

Other than that, I did get my birthday shopping done being that it was a big priority! The bathrooms are cleaned, the laundry is done. Rachel studied somewhat for her math test but we'll work on that more tomorrow. Nicolle informed me that she also has a math test Monday and could use some help. These will be the last math tests for the school year, so I guess we'll get through it! Of course, Nicolle's is quite a bit harder, so I'm glad I took a College Algebra class not so very long ago, otherwise she might be on her own. Once she gets to Trig and/or Calculus, I'm afraid I won't be any help at all! I am really worried about Rachel's language grade. Her mid-term grade was quite a shock being that is was so bad. She had her last language test on Thursday and hasn't got her grade back yet, but she said it was hard for her. That doesn't exactly reassure me.

I made a lot of progress today on the dollhouse. The roof is now on and I put in partitions for the rooms. I still need to assemble the bay and dormer windows, the stairs, the front porch, and put the shingles on the roof. But at least it looks like a house now. Rachel will be in charge of choosing the furniture and decorating the inside. Hobby Lobby has a pretty good selection of floor coverings. I'm sure she'll have a lot of fun with that. I still have one more kit so I'll put a second dollhouse together eventually. If Nicolle decides she likes it, I'll let her have that one. Otherwise, I'll decorate it myself. It's a little bigger than the one I'm currently working on- three floors instead of two but the style of it actually looks a little less complicated.
