I was just lying in bed trying to take a cat nap and it occurred to me that I've missed my little journal this week.

David has been out doing yardwork- it's a good day for it. We've had plenty o' rain, so the grass was getting tall. I did some housework this morning, but didn't sleep well at all last night, so I was mostly just dragging myself around. I still have more of it to get done, but I'm in no hurry. I had to be up early to have Rachel at cheerleading try-outs at 8:00 this morning, so that didn't help matters. Last night's try-outs were for tumbling, today it was for stunting. She goes back for one more hour tomorrow and they're supposed to post the teams tomorrow night. I imagine she'll still be on the Youth 2 team but a few of the kids will be different this season. Some are aging out and will have to be on the Junior team and so they'll have a few new ones coming in.

We made us a hotel reservation for a couple of days after Memorial Day. David has that week off, the kids and I will be out of school, so we decided to take a mini-vacation to the St. Louis area and go to Six Flags. I think we're all counting down the days until school is over. I have my final on Wednesday. The kids both have their graduation ceremonies on May 25- Rachel's is in the morning and Nicolle's is in the afternoon. I still remember how I felt the day Nicolle graduated from elementary school. I didn't think it would be such an emotional thing, but once it got started it was all I could do to fight back tears. It's just another part of them growing up, and a reminder to me to enjoy them while they're still kids. I can only imagine how I'll feel when they graduate from high school!

There's still lots for them to do before school is finally over. Rachel will go on a fishing field trip to Binder Park on Monday, and then a safety patrol picnic on Friday, and a class trip to the St. Louis Zoo the week after that. Nicolle still has one more orchestra concert coming up, a trip to a Cardinal's baseball game, and a separate trip to the St. Louis Arch with her social studies class. And before this month is over, there's still Mother's Day, my birthday, and mine and David's wedding anniversary to consider. It seems like May has always been a chaotic month. Rachel will have summer school in June, but here's hoping that July and August will be relatively relaxing if not downright boring! It will be a perfect time for those occasional trips to the pool with a book if nothing else.
