Character
Name: Gokudera Hayato
Series: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Timeline: Post-Shimon arc.
Canon Resource Links: wikia

Personality: In short, Gokudera is a stubborn, crass teenager who's easily riled up (lol pun here "he has a short fuse") and extremely loyal. He's hard to warm up to in that he usually attempts to push people away before they ever get the chance to befriend him. Usually this is done by shoving some very caustic words in their face. It takes someone with a strong will to get passed some of the barriers he unconsciously puts in place sometimes. People like the ones who are slowly changing him to be more calm. Though a good portion of the time they're also met with a few good insults sometimes. All but two people, really. The first being Sawada Tsunayoshi, the other being Reborn. He would never be caught dead even so much as thinking ill of either men, as he respects them both fiercely. On more than one occasion, he's risked his life to defend and help the former of the two.

While being an asshole takes up at least a good three quarters of Gokudera's personality, there is also a few good aspects to him besides his loyalty. Like the fact that he is almost kiddishly fascinated with the unknown. Things such as aliens, the Loch Ness Monster (for example) and what he dubs U.M.A. (Unidentified Mysterious Animal). He becomes rather fanboyish about it, to be exact. Awe struck at first, then blushy and wistful. It's rather cute, too. In a somewhat goofy, nerdy way that would be facepalm inducing or borderline on obsessive. What's more is that he will defend whatever hypothesis he comes up with for something outlandish if he's pressed about it, which is usually done with a professor's sort of grace. He will either explain it in-depth if he has to or leave it to someone else to believe of not.

Unfortunately Gokudera also has a few stalker-like qualities as well. But those are solely directed toward "Jyuudaime" (Tsuna) because he is always, always worried about his safety and well being. In a cute puppydog sort of way. Gokudera would be an entirely adorable being if it weren't for the fact that he ruins it with his temper. Silly boy.

Normally he's in a pretty neutral mood all around, it just takes someone to spark his annoyance even just a little bit. However, if something happens to him that he fails (be it a task he's given or the fact that he's not as strong) he becomes an entirely different type of person. While usually the door is at least partially open to people, when he's in 'emo' mode it's completely shut. Gokudera becomes quiet and reserved and seems to lack that usual spark that makes him a ticking time bomb. Usually, he will have to either work this problem out with himself by training of some kind or suddenly realize something through whatever kind of intervention, be it intentionally or not. It's just because he typically takes things a bit too seriously or too far. He's an extremest in one of the worst ways.

Strengths/Weaknesses: One of Gokudera's strengths is that he is highly intelligent. To the point of probably being a genius, really. He's good with school, reads manuals, and forms his own system of studying over knowledge gained by experience. There is a weakness to this, though. As he often takes a 'do it yourself approach' to... well. Just about everything, actually. It means that he will seclude himself in the nearest library and not come out until he's finished. And even when he does, it's usually to test a theory and then go back to the drawing board later. This could lead Gokudera to potentially being one of the best newbie tutors ever... except he would likely rather eat a stick of dynamite first.

Another strength/weakness is that he grew up on the streets of Italy. He knows very well how to take care of himself, be it finding himself shelter and food or a fight. He isn't so weak to be taken down, but he usually does come out of the scuffle with some scrapes and bruises. Unfortunately if the opponent is someone vastly stronger and smarter than himself he's pretty much useless.

Which leads to another strength/weakness. He is absolutely, positively stubborn. To the point of he will do something or die trying. In fact, he usually tends to try too hard and end up hurt. However after someone finally gets it across to him that he is important, he's trying to somewhat subdue that fact and become strong enough that he doesn't have to push himself to the breaking point.

One of his strong weaknesses, though, is that when he's near his sister without her wearing goggles to conceal her eyes... he basically ends up incapacitated. Due to a childhood trauma of her feeding her specialized 'poison cooking' to him, if he see's her without these goggles he suffers a sever attack of psychologically-induced stomach cramps. A shadow of what he felt when he was a kid, no doubt. These cramps are enough to instantly bring him to his knees, and even go so far as to knocking him out.

Samples
First Person Sample:
Action / Accidental Voice
[At first Gokudera's sorta sitting on top of a rock away from the gathering at the square. One hand is in his hair scratching his head while the other is holding his pokeball. He's staring at it long and hard, trying to figure out what the hell this dumb looking ball is. Smart though he is, it didn't make much sense to him to be explained as 'this is that' and 'that is this'. What the hell was with that anyway?! Tch.]

Tch. You're a stupid looking thing whatever the hell you are.

[Smart boy begins to shake said pokeball. Rather violently too. Oops. Apparently the contents didn't quite appreciate that and decides to poof into his lap and growl at him.

Now. Gokudera isn't quite unused to that, to be honest. Uri did that a long time ago. But this thing is not a snarling little storm leopard cub. But it was enough to startle him and stare for a brief moment. Long enough for him to jump and something in his pocket switch the communication device on.

Cue undignified 'ack!' sound. Then a somewhat excited 'wow' sound. It's... it's...]

IT'S AN U.M.A!!!

Third Person Sample:
This place; it wasn't Namimori. It wouldn't take a genius to know that, either. Especially not with an U.M.A -- Gokudera refused to think of it as anything else at the moment, despite being told it was something called a 'Pokemon', whatever the hell that was -- playing around at his feet. It was a freakish looking thing that reminded him more of a tame, chrome-domed, scaleless dinosaur than anything. It looked nothing like any box animal he'd ever seen in the future either...

And just what in the hell was that dumb dance it was doing?! Was it retarded...? Did it have to pee? Oh dear god, it's tail was going to light the bushes beside them on fire!

His eyebrow twitched. "Stop that!"

It took all his might to resist the urge to grab the thing and shake it like he'd done to the pokeball before. Experience with Uri scratching his face every-goddamn-time stopped him in his tracks as he clenched his fist and instead g-gently scooted the thing away from the bush beside them.

"Jeez," He exhaled quietly, glaring at the poor creature. "Watch where that thing of yours is going, will you?!"

The Pokemon-thing grabbed his tail and pulled it close to himself, as if to say it was sorry. Just looking at it made Gokudera feel a somewhat familiar pang of guilt, which was usually reserved for Jyuudaime. While it frowned and looked like a scolded child, Gokudera kind of couldn't help relating it to Jyuudaime's pensive expression. Maybe it was the other teen's doe-eyes, and this little orange thing sorta... did have the same kind of eyes. The gentle kind that made him feel like a bad, selfish person sometimes.

Without really thinking much on it after that, the teen reached down to pat the poor little thing over the head. "Hungry?"

Immediately, the U.M.A./Pokemon thing looked happy and hopeful, and that actually made him kinda... smile a little. A-aww. "Alright. I know what to name you." Gokudera grabbed his Pokemon manual out of his provided backpack and opened the first page. He smirked down at it, cocky like he was being smart. "How do you like 'Tanus'?"
