So I got a new computer! I was particularly excited because the exchange rate between the dollar and the yen hasn't been like this in twenty years, and I thought I could save a wad of cash.

Too bad I'm an idiot that doesn't know my maths! I was standing outside the Apple store in Shibuya multiplying this number by that percentage, trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to buy here or convert my yen into dollars and buy in the states. Somehow I got the prices even with each other and I figured there'd be no point in waiting, so I got it.

Turns out I got something backwards somewhere and I ended up spending more than I needed to, but I don't know by how much because I don't have the heart to find out, ha ha. I'm not too sad because I got it a couple weeks earlier than if I had waited. Some would call that Stupid Tax, I'll call it paying a premium.

It didn't really hit me that I've been in Yokohama for over a year until I saw all the Christmas decorations around. I remember last year around this time I was alone, depressed, and very poor. I was fighting to keep friendships from dissolving, wondering where my life was going, staying the night at my principal's house because I had nothing else to do, and I was borrowing money to get by.

But now I got the next few years of my life decided, I'm having trouble fitting all my friends into my schedule, and I'm buying my own plane tickets home for the holidays. What a change a year can make, indeed.
