Each of us must contend with reality
Each of us must contend with reality. Which is to say that we have to deal with the truth. We can choose not to deal with it, or declare it doesn’t exist, but reality has a way of sneaking up on us and proving our assumptions wrong. Each of us needs courage to persevere in and with the truth.
The Lean Startup gained so much traction because it moved business away from the realm of the political and towards the realm of the measurable. No longer did people need to argue in a board room based on their past experiences what was true and what the future could hold; now each person at every level of the organization could know the truth. With internet based products, we could design experiments and then measure all our hypotheses on real system users. The way forward didn’t require a persuasive argument or a coalition, it became obvious.
