To answer your question, yes - when a gear can't connect to a certain number that person has, in fact, disappeared. The most likely and common theory is that they go back to their respective homes.

[He nods after a moment, glancing around the city around him with a little smile.]
Yes, I could see myself staying here for quite some time before moving on again. I have to say it has a very pleasant atmosphere.
[He probably could use a little time anyways to wait and find out things from his prior travel companion, and recuperate from the head cold. He tilts his head with a slightly sad smile afterwards.]
Ah, that theory really does make sense I suppose. I guess it's a good thing then...!
For them to get to go home, I mean.

Let's hope so. Sadly, it's something one has to get used to. People disappear almost as often as they appear.

I hope to eventually see Goldenrod, I keep hearing that it's a wonderful place. Though so far I'm quite happy with Violet to explore and wander around for awhile.
[At the mention of how frequent disappearances could be, Yuui looked a little more concerned. It meant there would be more occurrences like this?
He was quite of the mind to be happy for Fay and anyone else who got to go home, but it still was a bit unnerving to not truly know where someone went and that you might not ever see them again.]

Sometimes people reappear, but they might not recall having been here before.

[He smiles a little before that confused expression crosses his face again. Nope, he wasn't going to understand how that was even possible, but he did believe it could happen if he was told it could by someone who knew better.]
I should keep that in mind then, and watch very closely just in case... It would probably be hard on someone to arrive and not remember being here before where people knew them, let alone arriving for the first time.
