Oh hey, this past weekend Aaron and I finally went to Steak 'Em Up! I've been wanting to go there since their ads started playing during televised sporting events. Their ads are amazing. First, here is their logo, along with the phone number in case you wanted to call them:
So you see that mascot? I was CONVINCED that was a duck. I was sure that Steak 'Em Up's logo was a duck dressed as a gangster, holding a hoagie instead of a tommy gun. Which, if you think about it, is kind of genius.
So in the commercial, they play a version of The Cars' "Shake It Up" (perhaps you see where this is going) and when it gets to the title chorus, the duck's beak moves ever so slightly so it's singing - but oh ho, instead of singing "shake it up!" it sings "Steak 'Em Up!" And the sound quality is poor. Clearly, this is my favorite commercial on tv right now.
So we went to Steak 'Em Up because we just had to know a couple of things. 1) Is it good? 2) Is that a duck gangster or a man gangster?
We placed our order and then I asked the tired-looking girl at the counter, "Is that a duck on your logo? Or a guy?" SHE NEVER ANSWERED ME. I went outside to look at the Steak 'Em Up welcome mat and their ancient sign and the answer became clear to me: it's a man gangster.
I cannot express to you my disappointment that it is intended to be a man, not a duck. It does comfort me that man or duck, you cannot escape the fact that this gangster is holding a hoagie as if it were a gun.
Oh, and the food was fine.
