Happy Easter!

Happy Easter everyone! The Lord is risen indeed.

I had a sick headache and couldn't make it to last night's Easter Vigil but went to the 8am service today, which was lovely.

And on to the mundane...

I already know I'm in a minority on this, but I didn't care much for the new Doctor Who--there were many glances to the progress bar at the bottom of the screen. I think I may just be growing out of DW entirely (again). I wasn't riveted by any of the four episodes last year (I still haven't watched Waters of Mars and may even have deleted it). In the new ep, I was immediately put off by the opening scene of a child praying to Santa (!--although I shouldn't have been surprised given the treatment of Christianity throughout the series) and it sort of went downhilll from there, although I did like the clever explanation of why Amy was wearing a very unofficial police uniform.

While I was immediately charmed by Ten's regeneration from Nine, Eleven seemed just too silly (I know, most folks think he's much LESS silly than Ten). I'll watch a few more episodes, but definitely not something I'm going to be longing to see each week. Too bad, as I enjoyed Moffatt's episodes when he wasn't in charge but was a writer. Is Paul Cornell writing this series? Because I liked his eps too. And I guess there will be a Neil Gaiman ep to look forward to. /oldie grump

Ashes to Ashes series three, on the other hand--Wow! Another series that I was (in a minority) underwhelmed by, although series two was a slight improvement. Series three started with a bang and I loved it from the sly new voiceover onward! Having not kept up with A2A or read or seen a single spoiler I was completely floored by Jim Keats (is he a DI? or does he have some other rank, since he's *supposedly* an internal affairs type policeman?) The last five minutes or so between him and Gene Hunt were top notch! Wow! And Sam Tyler even got a few mentions! I AM really looking forward to the next episode of this.

I will spend the rest of this day doing "indoor" work and outdoors gardening and washing my car--I'm going to start parking on the grass in front of my house, as my usual parking area in back is under an enormous white ash that this year is not only depositing yellow pollen and stinky yellow bloom bunches, but also sap droplets all over the car! While there will still be pollen in the front yard, at least I hope not as much sap!

Easter dinner with Laura's family this afternoon, then it's back to work. I'm traveling to DC Weds - Saturday on business. Then I think I'll have to pay someone with a riding mower to do my grass one time, because it will be so grown over with weeds and fallen branches from the trees by the time I can get around to it that my mower won't be able to cope. So a one-time super mow will be needed.

English friends, enjoy the bluebells under the trees in the woods for me (as seen in my userpic)--although I think they may not be out yet since we're only now getting budding leaves on the trees...
