31 Days: Day Four

4. The Train Song
Hey there Mr Conductor
Can you tell me what time we're due
Well I hate to seem impatient but you'd be excited too
If you got a pretty little woman like I got
Just waitin' for you back at home
And once I reach her loving arms
And never again she'll roam

It's country! There could have been an entirely different career here, I swear. This is from when he was in Steel Mill, and he was about 20 or 21 when this was recorded. The same basic idea of running home to your love that appears in songs like Open All Night, except twangier. There's this random spoken word section near the end, and then there's the somewhat odd lyric "I'll be waltzing arm and arm with my darling electric chair" - if anyone has any insight on what that even means, please do explain. The only thing I can think of is it's a really cheesy way of saying the narrator loves this girl so much it kills him or something. Or maybe he's being taken to, uh, be executed?

I was always better at math than English in school :(
