I'm new to decorating cakes but I've reluctantly agreed to do a 60th Birthday cake.
I have bought two
topsy turvy cake pans and will make two different size sponges or I might make a large round cake topped with a smaller round cake. I can marzipan them and roll fondant icing over them, without it looking too shoddy but I'd like to try something decorative that is effective but easy. Cutting shapes from coloured sugar paste/icing is something I can do accurately.
And if that wasn't tough enough - my brief is that this person's favourite colours are blue and grey.
Any help ladies?
UPDATE In the end I decided not to use them and made a
puzzle cake and here's how it came out - not excellent but it sort of worked. I use a different sponge mix because the ones in the book are very heavy on rich ingredients.
