Peanut Butter Fudge Cake

I found this while hunting for recipes that call for buttermilk, in an attempt to use some up before the Sell-By Date of No Return, and it's amaaaazing. If you like the chocolate & peanut butter combo, definitely try it. It tastes like a Reese's cup in cake form! :D It's quite rich, and absolutely perfect with a glass of milk. I'm not sure regular milk would be okay, I'm guessing there's something specific about buttermilk that the cake needs to do... cakey things. (Very amateur baker here, haha.) But I found this at Joy the Baker: The Best Buttermilk Substitutions. There are some more suggestions in the comments too, hopefully one of those will work!

I've subbed buttermilk with regular milk, you won't get that extra tang that buttermilk provides, but it should bake fine.

if it calls for buttermilk then do the buttermilk substitutions because i believe buttermilk will help with the denseness and give a really moist taste. i think..don't quote me on it.

buttermilk will actually stay good for a long time past the sell by date so don't panic!

Thank you, that's really good to know! :D None of the stores around here sell it in anything smaller than a quart, and I feel bad throwing it out.
