Feeling a little down, but let's have a laugh over one of my assignments

One of the questions on my assignments is to explain a bunch of phrases.
And one of the phrases I have to explain is...

The right to remain silent

I am so barely keeping a straight face over this one it's almost not funny.

I should go the long involved and slightly rambly route with this one:

How Miranda Rights are not actually required to be 'read' (usually taken to mean recited) to people being arrested (this is a popular misconception, and in real life you cannot get off on a technicality by not being read the Miranda Rights at the time of arrest);

how recent cases in America explain that the act of remaining silent does not necessarily invoke the right to remain silent (you must say that you shall remain silent if you wish to remain silent lol);

comparative such Cautions within Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand;

check to see if I can find it mentioned in the Twelve Tables of Roman Law anywhere, or if there's any Latin for it;

the circumstances in which one should inform a person (before an Interrogation; during a possibly big moment of an Interrogation; during a possibly big moment of an Interview with a Person of Interest; upon arrest), of his or her right to remain silent (or local equivalent thereof);

usage in popular culture;

A quote from Sergeant Boyden of The Bill (one of his moments along the lines of "Don't I got the Right to Remain Silent?" "You do. What you lack is the capacity.")

Tempting. So tempting...

canadian law, schoolwork, criminal law, unfinished assignments, i ramble because i care, powers of arrest, perhaps i should have another coffee, be not afraid to tell me what you think, cop stuff, law
