52 Days of Disaster - Day 13

Nov 14, 2009 23:53

Falling asleep. Have done too many things today. So instead of a Life on Mars: cake prompt as had been planned, here, have some of the Adventures of Al and Robbie.

"Aw, Dorothy's a nice enough lady. So long as you don't threaten Alice or anything. Whoo-ey, the one time that somebody took her hostage? You should have seen the stunt Captain pulled getting her out."
Albert smiled carefully, going over the report for spelling and grammar mistakes.
"And Alice is the Captain's... daughter? Sister?"
"Nah, Alice is her girlfriend. Used to be mine, but I'm not supposed to talk about that, 'cause it upsets the Captain, and it's never really a good idea to upset her, because then she gets all cranky and assigns extra paperwork."
Albert nodded in understanding.
"Ah yes, that would rather seem to be the universal constant-" stopped, replayed the sentence mentally. "Sorry, did you just say that Alice was the Captain's girlfriend?"
"Uh, yeah. I also said that Alice was my girl, but they kinda met at some other party with a mutal friend or something - not been too good with the details for me, which is probably fair enough - and just... hit it off." Robbie shot Albert a suddenly worried look. "Aw, bother, forgot, sorry. You're a Dinosaur, right, yeah. Is that okay, is it going to be a problem for you, Al?"
Al was suddenly grateful that he'd left his haircut for so long, as he could feel the tips of his ears going red under his hair.
"No, not a problem. Just a little... Unexpected, that's all. I hadn't expected the captain to be a lesbian."
Robbie moved his lips around the unfamiliar word, frowned as if trying to remember out what it meant, then brightened.
"Oh. Okay. Heh. You guys and your strange words and labels for people. I wish I could remember when things like that stopped being so compartmentalised and shit, but I honestly can't remember. Hey, how much of this kinda stuff is still culture shock for you?"
The question wasn't entirely unexpected.
"Not much of it, these days. Sure, some things still take me a trifle by surprise, but I like to think I'm getting better every day. Why?"
"Just asking. So, you-"
Thankfully, Robbie's next words were cut off by his wristinsert buzzing insistently. Robbie looked at the message, then looked back up at Albert, face grim and all signs of cheer gone.
"Another body's been found."
