yes, I'm ranting about a PRO-LGBTQ song/music video
So I'm putting together an "It Gets Better" playlist of sorts for fanmix. I went to PSC to ask for suggestions and someone said 'Fuck You' by Lily Allen... so, of course, I looked it up to see if it followed my theme.
I mean, while it did... it didn't. And I was sort of offended by it.
It encompassed part of what the It Gets Better Project is about: the effect that hatred has on the lgbt community. Well... it's a response to that hatred, anyway.

Now, while I understand the purpose of it... I have to say I do NOT approve of the message it sends. Let's take a look at the lyrics.

Now, that last line, I can agree with: we're all tired of the hatred. Accusing someone of having a tiny mind? Yeah, I can see it, depending on what they've expressed.

Your point of view is medieval
Okay, now... "I think you're just evil"... what kind of message is that sending? Just because someone is homophobic, they're automatically on the same level as Satan (I'm using the figure though I don't believe in him)? Doesn't that seem kind of extreme? And how is homophobia racism? Can someone explain that to me? Now, the point of view being medieval, yeah, I'll drink to that.

Okay, so we're 'sick of the hatred they harbor,' yet we're giving them a big ol' "fuck you"? And saying we hate their whole crew? Why are we battling hate with hate, here? Doesn't that seem a little counterproductive?

Well that's not how you find it

Your losing control of it and it's really distasteful

WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH! Suddenly slaying homophobes is the best way? And why don't we want their opinion? They're human as well... just because we don't like their opinion doesn't make it any less of one.

Final thoughts: Overall, I do appreciate Lily Allen helping to give voice to the LGBT community... but I still say battling hate with hate isn't the best way. We preach and preach about the hatred and discrimination we suffer through... can we honestly expect change by throwing it back at them? Are we animals?
