Okay okay, I SURELY have no life because earlier today, I spend the morning chatting with some ppl who had watched Hachikuro, who aren't fans of Toma-chan... They are hardcore fans of the anime or/and manga and know ziltch of most of the actors in the dorama... And I NEVER mentioned I'm Toma-chan's fan, I just told them I wanna watch the dorama (since it is one of the new dorama of 2008) and asked for their unbiased opinions on the dorama...
Okay, here is the lowdown :
1) The story is changed from the original anime/manga... A few said if they wanted to change so many stuff, they shouldn't call it an adaptation.. Just make a new story
2) Hagu is too tall... She should be more pixie-ish, not almost as tall as Takemoto... The scale is off!
3) Morita is too annoying! Morita should be weird and loud but NOT annoying! The guy who plays Morita is bad for making the character annoying and hated..
4) Ayumi is okay, though many expected her to be prettier... Now her looks is that of an above average OL... She should be a stunner...
5) But at least Takemoto is Takemoto... This Takemoto looks and feels like the real Takemoto, not an annoying idiot in the movie... They got a perfect guy (it's Toma-chan!!! But I can't scream Toma-chan at them to concealed my identity) to play Takemoto... Who's he?
I was about to cry from all the bad rep at first, but the fifth one made me feels happy and wanna cry in happiness...
Maybe the low ratings have something to do with :
1) Ppl are still in new year mode, so many were drunk that night and forgot to watch it.. <--I am still hanging on to this excuse..
2) Many would of thought, Hachikuro is a total shoujo type dorama, so it would be sappy and boring and so slow... So this may put off some ppl especially ppl who likes some actions in their dorama, kinda like me.. Normally, I wouldn't even consider watching hachikuro, but because of Toma-chan....
3) Hachikuro fans may feel like their expectations had been let down, because of the story change and some of the points I have mentioned above...
So in all, I think the writers wanted to attract new viewers, not just Hachikuro fans, that's why the story had so many changes and more fast paced than expected.... And maybe, with time, the Hachikuro fans will like it too, if the dorama is strong enough... Kinda like with Hanakimi... The story was changed so much, but ppl still like it, right?
And most importantly, despite negative comments from hachikuro fans, they at LEAST think the guy (Toma-chan!) who plays
Takemoto is good... My opinion is this, despite everything, even if this dorama crash and burn, NO ONE can say that Toma-chan is a bad actor... Absolutely NO ONE!
And he will still get the recognitions he deserves! I've seen actors winning Best Actor awards, even though the movie itself didn't win Best Movie award, right? So I don't think it is wrong to hope he will win another award this year...
If everything in the movie crash and burn, Toma-chan will still survive and ppl will say, "Ah, the dorama was a bomb! But at least the guy who played Takemoto in the dorama is good and so much better than the movie one.."
And in the future, the same ppl who said that will see another dorama with Toma-chan and think, "Hey, this is the guy who played Takemoto in the Hachikuro dorama! Yes, I believe it IS him! Hmmm, he was good back then, so maybe he'll do good this time too.." and watched his new dorama and who knows, maybe THIS one Toma-chan hit the jackpot and this dorama really good...
So in all, I wouldn't worry for Toma-chan.. Even if anything happens, he did his best and even if non-fans can see it, why not his fans? We should stand by him and believe in him...
Oh yeah, I made a thread for Hachikuro in the free discussions forum here :
