Just...need...to...finish...this...essay.

This schooling stuff is kicking my ass. That being said, the coordinator is pretty good, just that when teaching or in expectations she effuses the love of Sparta.

Manga:

Caught up with One Piece! I stopped after the traumatising Ace's arc, so there were a lot of arcs to swallow and will need a reread. I did like that Sanji is getting more backstory (hinted at), and the Luffy and Law allying is an amazing plot development. It doesn't hurt that Law is possibly the only guy that actually tried to treat Luffy like a real Pirate Captain, then realised that alliance in his book has just been knocked out and rubber glomped by Luffy's definition, and is even still trying feebly to drag it back to the conventional adult definition ahahaha hopeless cause.

Last chapter: Nice parody of ninja tropes. Then I go on reddit and feel very old when all the baby millenials ask all butthurt if Oda is making fun of Kishimoto. No, young ones. There is a very long, long history of ninjas in movies, manga and other games before Naruto. Naruto did not invent ninjas kthanxbye.

Skip Beat: I hit the Cain siblings arc and sort of sank. I just...this was the most pointless part of the arc to me. Maybe Kyoko has extended her range somewhat and likely has to be mentally prepared since she gets a lot of dark, villaness roles, but...seriously pointless. I unfortunately have only the barest modicum of patience for Ren's angst. Sho Fuwa I like as an antagonist because his giant inflated ego is consistently inflated and eventually lifts him and his talent over his roadblocks, but Ren's angst has an entire agency and his entire family sidestepping around it and his issues. Ren's reaction is to act like a tragic limping unicorn, or simply exert sheer charisma/acting and pretend it didn't happen. I definitely prefer Kyoko's strategy to life. Also, the Cain Heel thing was completely incomprehensible to me. I don't really understand the idoru life and image stuff, and I eventually did chalk it up to not wanting to damage his heart throb image, but this serial killer has all the depth of an oil slick. The entire set up had the feel of a one those b movie you trot out for summer/halloween, so unless Ren or his agency is hurting for money, isn't this something you'd rather hire cheap breaking out talent for?

Dark Moon at least has supposed pscyhological depth that makes Ren and Kyoko go 200% in method acting. This...Cain Heel thing felt more like Lory had to pay back a life debt and threw in the Heel siblings stuff to add some actual brain work for Ren, otherwise he'd just sleepwalk his entire way through the movie.

Luckily I ran across someone's blog post that the Heel siblings arc is OVER YES, and Kyoko's mom shows up! It is an excellent mini arc on its own and it totally bazookas the depth of Cain Heel's feelings out into the stratosphere. If I reread Skip Beat, I'm literally going to mark off where the Heel sibling arc starts and ends so I can avoid it as much as possible. I do like that Saena Mogami is interesting, has her own issues and you can kind of see she is precisely that strait-laced character that would react badly to life changing fuckup that has ruined an entire department.

Also this does totally drive home to me that I'm into Skip Beat really for Kyoko, you sweet little emotional rollercoaster you, and I'm prepared to adore Ren only for her sake. But if you ever went the Mouko route, sweetie, I would totally be behind you all the way!

Other things I need to catch up on:
Showa Genrou Rakugo Shinjuu - WHAT IS THIS AMAZING THING WHY IS NO ONE SHOWERING LOVE???? OMG that that first two episodes. I'm just going to incoherently flail here for a while.
