In most of the legal field (hush, you marymont!) there is little tolerance of 'business casual.' So my small piece of rebellion was to buy inexpensive, nice flowing dresses at Ross in the Really Cheap rack. The two-piece dress and overdress combo can't be beat for coolness, Kewlness and so-there-nyah-up-yours-management! nice casual office wear. I never paid more than $20 for any one of these. They're usually rayon, sometimes linen if you're lucky, so a quick trip through the dryer in the bag with a Dryel sheet worked wonders... hang up immediately after they're done and you're good to go for the next wearing. I'd send them to the dry cleaner only if I did something really heinous down the front at lunchtime, like Thai iced tea or something Chinese and saucelike. Most linen was washed and (ick, ironing!) ironed dry for that nice linen crispness I love

Unfortunately it's not an office, it's stupid retail. I spend a lot of time kneeling down, crouching, crawling around to shelve stuff on the bottom shelf, so a long skirt gets in the way. (When I was actually working in the back office most days, I'd sometimes wear a long skirt, but it just isn't practical for shelving, alas.)
