Setting my sights on Mt. Guiting-guiting (G2)

G2 has eluded me for years now; I am unable to join any of the past climb expeditions to this mountain since these were done during the Holy Week. So when Alman invited me to join a G2 climb he’s organizing end of April long after the Holy Week, I got excited in the prospect of finally setting foot on the summit of G2. But my excitement was short-lived; Alman had to cancel since he can’t afford to miss a friend’s wedding. Luckily, 2k6 AMCI members thought of taking over Alman’s G2 climb. After a flurry of e-mail exchanges, it was finally set for April 28 to May 2.

The climb team consists mostly of 2k6 AMCI members with a smidgen of junior and senior AMCI members: Cecil Morella of 2k6 is the Team Leader; Kim San Juan, also of 2k6, is the Asst. Team Leader; Alvin Mabutol of 2k2 is the Trail Master; and the Sweepers are Bing Gimenez of 2k1, Jig Macaspac of 97 and myself (93).

We had our first pre-climb meeting last Wednesday, and this weekend half of the climb team will join the Mariveles Mountains - Tarak Peak climb. I’ve drafted a workout/pre-climb meeting schedule so that together we can prepare physically and mentally for G2, and also to establish better rapport between the climb participants.

G2 is touted as one of the more treacherous mountains to climb in the Philippines, is it or is it not? Well, there’s only one way to find out. Let’s go!

To those who are apprehensive of climbing G2, here is what Angie Tan (2k2) has to say, “G2 is not a monster, it's as easy or as hard as you think it is, so think EASY!!! :-)”
