John Carter of Blame

Feb 17, 2012 13:16

Kind of funny to see that people at Disney are already playing the blame game as to who is responsible for John Carter.

I guess that is what happens when people start saying that your $250 million (the reported figure, though I've seen claims it may be closer to $350 mil) movie may make around $100 million.

I can't see why they wanted to make the film in the first place, much less spend $250 million on it. Disney must have wanted an Avatar, and for some insane reason thought a 100 year old (the first story was published around 1912 I think) sci-fi series about a former Confederate soldier who travels back and forth between Mars and Earth whenever he dies was going to be it.

But then, these are the same people that decided dropping "of Mars" from the title would make it appealing to women, both for removing the sci-fi aspect and for making it more like a romance movie title. It apparently didn't work.
