He did "fantastically well" coming off the oxygen, according to the vet tech, and so he's now upstairs sleeping on my bed. He's on Lasix plus two more meds to help his heart function, and will be for the rest of his life. He's breathing normally--cats should breathe 30-45 times per minutes, which I didn't know until now--and seems to be in very good spirits. He ate half a can of Fancy Feast and is drinking a lot of water, due to the Lasix (a diuretic to remove the fluid from his lungs).
He has a follow-up with the cardiologist in about two weeks for more x-rays and bloodwork. He and I both have cardiologists now, which is pretty funny (and very expensive).
Thanks again for your good wishes. I'm so thrilled to have him home. I really didn't think he'd ever make it out of the hospital.
He will have turkey and ham tomorrow, as much as he wants. I told my sister that if he smoked cigarettes, I'd let him have as many as he wanted. What does he have to lose at this point?
