Must be that time of year
I found a stray kitten tonight in the parking lot of a SuperTarget near my house. Last September, you may recall that I found a stray kitten while going through the drive-thru at Arby's. I'm wondering if this is going to be an annual occurrence.
Anyway...orange tabby kitten, haven't looked under the tail so no idea what sex, maybe 8-10 weeks old. Feral enough to not want to come near me until I opened a can of Fancy Feast that I'd luckily just bought (and very skittish even then), but familiar enough with people to not go batshit when petted and even to purr like a motorboat. I guess that it had a home at some point and was either lost or dumped outside. We've had some major flooding here in the past week to 10 days so it's possible that someone inadvertently lost this little guy/girl when evacuating. I posted a notice on Craigslist and may try calling the Target tomorrow to see if anyone has put up a flyer in the store about a lost kitten.
The kitten is currently curled up in a carrier in my downstairs bathroom with a belly full of Fancy Feast and some dry food. I'm crossing my fingers that it knows how to use a litter box. I'll see if I can get an appointment with the vet tomorrow to get the basics taken care of: feline leuk test, worming, flea/tick/heartworm treatment, etc.
