What a wild chapter! Guess that conversation that Jack and Ennis were having is going to be put on hold for the duration but, I'm confused, how did Mingo and Rafael know that Jack and Ennis were going to be driving down the road? How did they know that someone wouldn't stop for them first?
They think Ennis is dead? Ennis isn't dead is he? Why would they tell Jack he is dead if he isn't? Do they think Ennis is dead?
Yeah, that could've been clearer, but we're not through with Rafael and Mingo yet. btw: They were trying to find the Newsome place and had a flat tire. It wasn't the trap it appeared. Mingo had intended to knock on the door and pretend to be lost. I didn't think it was a detail that needed to be in the story, but I forgot you can't read my mind. Thanks for the reminder, Grace.
PS: They told Jack that Ennis was dead just to hurt him. They're not nice people ;)
Thank you for the praise, Mags. I'm honored. And you can't fool me; you don't sleep. You're awake 'round the clock creating wonderful word dreams of Jack and Ennis.
“I wondered, but I never done nuthin’ ‘bout it. I kept that part a myself for you.”
“Why? Did ya think all along we was gonna git back together?”
“I knew… I knew we should be together.”
“Well, it sure as hell would a been nice if you’d a let me in on it a little sooner. Maybe I wouldn’t gone with any a those guys. Maybe a fuckuva lot a bad things wouldn’t a happened. Ya ever think a that?” And there it is. It's easy to save something for someone when you at least have the hope they will be there to save it for, but Ennis took that hope away from Jack. Jack was alone and had no reason to believe he wouldn't always be that way unless he found someone else to love, so he looked for love where a gay man might find it - with another man. He wasn't looking for a temporary substitute because he had no clue there was any hope of getting Ennis back. He was looking for permanent, and that meant a man. Why can't Ennis see that, instead of holding Jack to some impossible standard when he denied him the knowledge that would have made it possible

It's chapters like this that remind me why I love your stories so much! I have nothing more intelligent to say than, this was awesome!
I thought the conversation b/t Jack and Ennis in the truck was spot on, everything about it felt right to me and I love how you're handling Ennis' feelings about "boys like Jack" and Jack's reaction to them.
Then everything with Mingo and Rafael! Who thought that would happen? Is it wrong of me to say I love that we're seeing them again? As much trouble as they're causing, they're fascinating characters!
Oh gosh, this is very disturbing! I'm going to be nervous till I find out if Ennis is o.k. Even if he is (he'd better be) I'm still nervous! I didn't expect anything like what happened in this chapter!!!
