It had been silent in the room for the past couple of hours. Jensen had been occasionally wiping the sweat off Jared’s face and neck as his lover slept. He felt kind of helpless as the only thing he could do is sit here and wait for Jared’s fever to go away. The silence was starting to get to him; Mary, Jane, or Dr. Schols would come in every once in awhile to check Jared’s stats and offer him a friendly smile. But the only thing he wanted was to see Jared’s eyes staring back at him.
Jensen put the rag back into the water and shifted closer to lean his arms on the bed as he took Jared’s hand into his and kissed his warm knuckles. “Wake up Jared.” He whispered as he ran his hand through Jared’s damp bangs. He looked behind him at the monitors and saw Jared’s temperature was 102.6 degrees. “I bet Chad and the guys are going out of their minds wanting to see you. The doc won’t let them back till you wake up…something about keeping the room sterile.”
Jensen looked over to the door as it opened and saw Dr. Schols and Li walk into the room. “Everything okay?”
Dr. Schols smiled and nodded. “I want Li to get another sample of blood from Jared to check again.” As he saw Jensen frown he quickly reassured, “Its just precaution. All of Jared’s vitals indicate that everything is fine.”
Jensen nodded and waited until Li had collected his sample and left. “Are you sure everything is okay? I mean…he hasn’t woke up yet.”
The doctor nodded, “His body has been through hell and back. He’s not in the coma anymore but he will sleep deep until his body is rested enough.”
Jensen sighed, “There’s nothing you can do to make him wake up now?” he asked half jokingly.
Dr. Schols smirked. “Sorry. We can move him back into his room as soon as his temp is lower than 102 degrees. Your friends are getting a bit restless out there.
Jensen laughed, “I can imagine.”
“I’ll be back in an hour or so to have Jared moved back to his room, his temp should be down enough by then.” Dr. Schols stated as he walked out.
Jensen looked down to study his sleeping lover. Jared’s sleep looked peaceful, his face was still slightly flushed red and his body still sweating out the fever but Jensen thought this was the best he looked since the knife had pierced his chest.
“This is kind of the home stretch here baby. Once you wake up it will be smooth sailing from here. Josh is gone for good, I’m here for good, your mother has no more power over you anymore…well I won’t let her if she tries…I know I have a lot to tell you once you wake up but it will be good from now on…I promise.” Jensen soothed as he bent down to place a kiss on Jared’s forehead. “Just wake up.”

Steve sighed and rubbed his temples to ward of the oncoming headache he could feel come on more and more with every thump, thump he heard. As the thump, thump sounded again, he glared at Chris and asked, “Is that really necessary?”
“I’m bored.” Chris shrugged as he once again threw the bouncy ball at the wall of the waiting room and caught it after it bounced back from hitting the floor.
“Where the hell did you get that anyway?” Chad asked as he reclined across some chairs.
“In the gift shop…it cost me a dollar.” Chris smirked as he threw the ball again.
“I’m going to kill you if you don’t stop it.” Steve snapped.
Chris paused for a moment before he continued to throw the ball. “I’m sure Ben would help you stash my body somewhere and you could get off with not even a slap on your wrist.”
“Chris…” Steve warned.
Chris smirked. He wasn’t upset at his lover anymore about the Ben situation but he wasn’t above messing with Steve about it and rubbing it in his face. It felt kind of good. “Yeah, then you two could rekindle your lost love.”
Steve frowned. He knew his lies had hurt Chris but they had made up and he wasn’t sure if Chris was kidding right now or saying this to purposely irritate him as an attempt to get back at him. Knowing his lover; it was probably a mixture of both. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
Chad slouched down a bit and hid behind a magazine. Ever since Jared’s fever had spiked tension had been high and the two other men in the room with him had been kind of snappy with one another. He hoped it would blow over once they found out that Jared was going to be okay, but it got worse. Chad figured now that they didn’t have Jensen and Jared to worry about they couldn’t exactly ignore the tension in their own relationship. He tried to read the magazine and ignore the storm that was about to break out next to him.
“I’m sorry was I speaking another language…it was clear to me.” Chris stated as he threw the ball harder at the wall.
Steve gaped at Chris in disbelief. “I thought we talked about this and put it behind us.”
“We did.”
Steve shook his head in confusion. “Than why are you being such an ass to me?”
“I’m not.” Chris replied easily as he continued to throw the ball.
“Yeah” Steve snorted. “Clearly.” he replied as he slumped back into his seat and closed his eyes. Maybe if he just let Chris cool off everything would be fine. He let out a long breath and began to calm down; nothing would get solved if he lost his temper also. It was working until he heard the thump, thump again.
Chris smirked as he threw the ball but frowned as a hand shot out and caught it before he could. He turned to see Steve glaring at him again. “What?”
“Knock it the hell off!”
Chris held out his hand. “Give me my ball.”
“No.”
“If you want one so bad go get your own.” Chris replied calmly and then smirked. “I’m sure Ben will lend you a dollar.”
“It’s not funny anymore Chris!” Steve yelled as he stood up and threw the ball back at Chris.
Chris grabbed it out of the air right before it hit his face and stood up face to face with an angry Steve. “It wasn’t funny to begin with Steve!” he quipped back as he whipped the ball back at Steve who ducked quickly.
A shattering sound had Chad looking up from the magazine to see glass shards from the picture frame hanging on the wall fall to the floor. He sighed, that wasn’t good.
“Oops.” Chris said as he and Steve stared at the mess with guilty expressions. They both quickly sat back down as a nurse came into the room.
“Everything okay in here?” she asked taking in the broken glass on the floor.
Chris smiled, “Yeah, the picture fell off the wall…nail must have given away or something.”
The nurse nodded, “I’ll call someone to come clean it up.”
Steve rolled his eyes after the nurse had left and looked at Chris. “You’re such an asshole.”
Chris laughed. “Yeah, but you love me anyway.” Chris reached out and pulled Steve into his side, kissing his neck.
Steve smiled and shook his head as he pulled Chris’s head up to meet his lips and kissed him.
Chad looked at the two lovers making out and sighed as he went back to reading his magazine. He just didn’t understand those two.

Jensen happily walked along side Jared’s bed as it was being wheeled back into a normal hospital room. Jared’s temperature had hit 101.7 by the time Dr. Schols had come back to move Jared.
Dr. Schols finished hooking Jared back up to the monitors and checked his IV’s before turning to Jensen. “I’ll come back and check on him during my rounds. I’ll go let your friends know they can come in now.”
Jensen smiled as he took a seat near Jared’s bed and leaned his head back. He was tired. He had gotten near to no sleep, especially in the last few days, but he didn’t want to fall asleep in case Jared woke up.
He stood up quickly to prevent himself getting too drowsy and stretched out the kinks in his body. The door opened and he saw his three friends enter. He smiled at them and within seconds all four men were incased in one big hug. He leaned most of his weight against Chris’s chest knowing his friends would hold him up. After a few minutes they pulled away.
Chad squeezed his shoulders and said, “Don’t ever leave me alone with these two again.” As he walked over to Jared’s bed and ran his hand up and down his friends arm.
Jensen laughed. “Were they too much for you?”
Chad looked up from fussing over Jared and stated, “You have no idea.”
“Oh, you haven’t seen nothing yet…just wait till you’ve hung around with us longer.” Chris smirked as he flung himself down on the sofa.
Chad snorted. “I’ll pass thanks though.”
Chris shook his head smirked. “No no young D’Artagnan. You still have much to learn. You’re part of the family now like it or not.”
Chad smirked backed. “Okay, thanks daddy.”
Steve shook his head. “Ewww, that’s too kinky, even for me.” He walked over to grab Jensen and forced him to sit on the couch between him and Chris. “You look like hell man, why don’t you get some shut eye.”
Jensen shook his head. “No, I’m fine.”
“He’s right man just rest a while, were here now, we can watch Jared while you sleep.” Chris pointed out as he grabbed Jensen by the shoulders and forced him to fall sideways on the couch so his head pillowed in Chris’s lap, his feet over Steve’s legs. “Just rest then.”
Jensen sighed. This position was pretty comfortable. “Fine but I’m just resting, I’m not going to sleep.”
“Okay.” Chris agreed as he ran his fingers lightly over Jensen’s forehead.
Silence reigned in the room for close to five minutes before Chad spoke up. “He asleep?”
“Yeap, out like a light.” Chris smiled.

It was two days later that Jared woke up to find himself surrounded by four men looking down at him. He sleepily blinked his eyes into focus and realized he was being asked something.
“Huh?” he mumbled weakly.
Jensen smiled and ran his fingers through Jared’s hair. “I said are you okay? Are you in any pain?”
“Should I get the doctor?” Chad asked his friend in concern.
Jared shook his head slightly. “Fine…just tired.”
“God, you have no idea how good it is to see your eyes.” Jensen smiled down at him.
Jared smiled back to tired to talk as he reached his hand out searching for Jensen’s. He closed his eyes again as he felt the warmth of Jensen’s hand surround his.
“I’ll go get his doctor.” Steve said as he pulled Chris out of the room with him.
“Going back to sleep already?” Chad asked his friend as he grabbed Jared’s other hand. “You just woke up.”
Jared opened his eyes again to smile at his friend and shook his head. “Water?” he asked.
Chad grabbed some ice chips off the side table and spooned some into his friend’s mouth. “I’m not sure your allowed to drink yet, best wait for the doctor.”
Jared sighed in pleasure as the ice melted in his mouth and soothed his dry throat. “What happened?”
Jensen and Chad looked at each other before Jensen replied, “You’re fever got high and the doctor had to do a procedure on you. You’ve been asleep for close to three days now.”
Jared nodded, “The infection?”
Jensen smiled brightly. “All gone. You’re going to be fine now.”
Jared closed his eyes in relief. He wasn’t sure he could survive any more bad news at this point.
Everyone’s attention shifted to the door as Chris and Steve walked in with the doctor.
“Good to see you awake Jared.” Dr. Schols smiled as he walked over to Jared to check him over. “How are you feeling?”
“Okay…tired.” Jared replied softly.
“It will take some time for your body to recover all it’s strength after what it went through.” Dr. Schols explained as he lifted Jared’s shirt and took away the bandages over Jared’s chest. “Your wound looks like it’s healing nicely. Any pain here?”
“Just a dull throb, it doesn’t hurt too bad.” Jared replied.
“Good.” The doctor put on a clean bandage and pushed Jared’s shirt back down before pulling out his scope to listen to Jared’s chest. “Your lungs sound nice and strong again. The infection is gone and your temperature is down to 99.3 degrees.”
“When can I leave?” Jared asked and then looked to Jensen with a concerned look.
“Whoa, easy there Jay.” Jensen said with a laugh confused about what had Jared so concerned. “Your not completely better yet.”
Dr. Schols smiled. “While everything does look good, I’m keeping you here for a while yet.”
“He said he was thirsty earlier, can he have something to drink?” Chad asked the doctor.
Dr. Schols nodded. “Water’s fine, just don’t drink too fast, your stomach won’t be able to handle too much after having nothing in it for over a week. I’ll send up a liquid dinner for you later also. As soon as you can hold down a solid meal and get of this IV, I’ll see about releasing you.”
Jared sighed and nodded. “Okay.”
“I’ll be back later.” Dr. Schols patted Jared on the shoulder and left.
Jared looked around at the four men around his bed and asked, “What’s been going on?” He noticed all four men look at each other in some type of silent communication and felt put off. What the hell was going on? “Jensen…tell me. I have to get out of here before…I can’t believe Josh hasn’t been here…He will…”
“It’s okay.” Jensen was quick to assure his lover. “I told you that Josh is in FBI custody now remember?”
Jared calmed slightly and nodded. He vaguely remembered Jensen mentioning the FBI when he had woken after the stabbing.
“Josh is long gone man, you won’t be seeing him again.” Chad smiled at his friend.
Jared nodded as confusion swept over him again. “FBI?”
“It’s a long story.” Chad tried to brush it off.
“You heard the doc, I’m not going anywhere.” Jared pointed out. He was going to get the whole story now even if he had to beg.
“Well…we kinda broke into Josh’s office when we were looking for information on where he was holding the wedding so we could come and get you and …” Jensen began.
“And stumbled across some information of bad business practices that he was engaged in.” Chad quickly brushed over the details of exactly what and who those business practices involved.
“I took the info and sent it to an old buddy of mine at the FBI to see if he could help us…” Steve picked up the story.
“Who also happens to be his ex lover.” Chris pointed out with a nod, like it was important information.
Steve glared at Chris and then looked back to Jared to continue his story. “Anyway he got a team together and came up here to find Josh and by the time they arrived Josh was trying to get you to his boat and you know the rest.”
Jensen grabbed Jared’s hand and squeezed. “The important thing is that Josh is in a lot of trouble and will be in prison for a long time. So we don’t have to worry about him.”
Jared nodded slowly, looking between the four men trying to wrap his mind around the story. “What bad business practices?” he asked and was slightly amused to see all four men grimace and look away from him.
“He was doing things with people’s money that he shouldn’t have been doing.” Chad explained.
“Who’s?” When no one spoke up Jared sighed loudly. “Come on guys, are you really going to make me drag this out of you piece by piece?”
Jensen looked at the other men shifting on their feet uncomfortably. “Uhh…guys…why don’t you give me and Jared some space?”
Jared watched the men exit and turned to face Jensen with a confused look, “Jensen…what’s going on?”
Jensen sat down on the bed by Jared’s thigh and took his hands into his. “When we were going through Josh’s office we found paperwork about your mom’s finances…or lack there of…”
“Lack there of?” Jared asked. “But she has lots of money. I mean, dad left her everything.”
Jensen sadly shook his head. “Not everything…he left you some too Jay.”
“What!” Jared was surprised. He hadn’t gotten any of his father’s money. His heart thumped painfully at the thought of his father. He wished so many times that his father was still around.
“Your father left you some too. Your mom was supposed to turn it over to you.” Jensen explained gently. “But she never did, she gambled it all away not long after your father died. Not just your portion but all of it, everything your father left her also…she’s broke.”
Jared shook his head. “But…I don’t understand, she still has her house and cars and…and…”
Jensen nodded. “That’s where Josh comes in. It looked like he gave your mom a monthly allowance, enough to keep her comfortable. He also was the one to transfer your portion of your father’s money over to her in the first place.”
“Why would he do that?” Jared asked confused. He couldn’t believe his mother had lost all the money. He was even more surprised that Josh would jeopardize himself to commit illegal acts. “What did he gain from doing that?” As he saw Jensen look down at the bed covered with a anxious look on his face; it all suddenly snapped into place. He finally understood why his mother had been depressed months after his father’s death and it wasn’t because he husband was dead. He finally understood why his mother was so hell bent on him marrying Josh. What did Josh get out of doing those things? Josh got him. “Oh...oh god…” he muttered suddenly sick to his stomach.
Jensen quickly grabbed the garbage can as he saw Jared turn white and then a sickly green. He rubbed Jared’s back as Jared hunched over the can and was sick; his breathing erratic. “Jay, calm down. Deep breaths.” Jensen tried to soothe his distraught lover.
Jared pushed the can away. “How…how could she?” He asked with tears in his eyes. “She’s…I’m…” he was too angry and hurt to think straight. “She…God…she whored me out for money!” he choked out around the lump in his throat. “She was going to let me rot in some abusive marriage so she could continue her social status. I…I…” he couldn’t continue as the sobs broke free.
Jensen quickly pulled Jared into his arms and held him as his lover cried out his anger, hurt and confusion. “Hey easy…it’s over now. It’s over.” He felt Jared shaking his head against his shoulder and continued to say, “Yes it is. Everything is going to be okay. I’ve got you. I’m here. We’ll get through this. I promise.”
Jensen continued to gently rock his crying lover, whispering soothing words and stroking his fingers through Jared’s dark hair, until Jared fell into a peaceful sleep.
*******~~~*******
A commotion outside the doorway woke Jared up. He blinked at the ceiling for a few seconds as memories of what Josh and his mother did washed over him. He swallowed down the sob that wanted to break free again and looked next to him to find Jensen curled in the hospital bed against him fast asleep.
“…you bitch…”
Jared snapped his head over to look at the door as he heard Chad’s voice sound from the hallway. Curious as to what was going on he shook Jensen’s arm. “Jen?”
Jensen jolted up. “Everything okay? Should I get the doctor?” he sleepily ran his hands over his face.
Jared shook his head and pointed to the door where yelling could still be heard.
Jensen got off the bed and dashed to the door, knowing the scene that would be there…knowing who was there. He yanked the door open to find Diane and Chad in a screaming match with Chris and Steve standing nearby. “What the hell are you doing back here?” he hissed.
Diane turned red faced to him and exclaimed. “I’m here to see my son!”
Chad snorted. “I believe we’ve had this conversation before, your not going near him.”
Diane glared at Chad before continuing; “I also need to talk to the doctor about his care instruction for when I take him home...”
Jensen took a step forward, “Lady, you must be bat shit crazy if you think I’d let Jared go anywhere with you.”
Diane gasped, “I’m his mother…”
“And I’m his lover!” Jensen yelled back. “You…”
“Guys!” A shaky voice sounded from behind Jensen. “Enough.”
Jensen turned around to find Jared leaning heavily on the doorway behind him. “You shouldn’t be out of bed Jay.” He walked over to stand next to Jared.
Diane stepped forward, “Hello darling. How are you feeling? I’ve come to visit you, but these…men…wouldn’t let me pass.”
Jared nodded slightly, his face emotionless.
“Jared…” Chad began.
“It’s okay. I’ll see her.” Jared interrupted.
Jensen hesitated. He didn’t want to leave Jared alone with Diane.
“Jen, it’s okay really. Just give us a bit.” Jared insisted with a glance toward Chris, silently pleading for the man to take his side. Chris seemed to get the message because he stepped forward and grab bed Jensen’s arm.
“Come on man, we will just be down the hall.” Chris pulled Jensen away from Jared and proceeded with Steve’s help to herd him and Chad down the hall to the waiting room they had grown so accustomed to.
Jared turned around, ignoring his mother, and focused on getting back into bed before he looked at his mother. “Why are you here?”
Diane stepped forward to smooth down the blankets over Jared’s legs. “To see how you’re doing of course.”
“Why do you care?” Jared queried.
“You’re my son.” Diane stated.
Jared laughed softly, “Your meal ticket you mean.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Diane denied as she raised an eyebrow at her son.
“Stupid doesn’t look good on you, it never has. You know exactly what I mean.” Jared accused. “I know all about your money problems, how you stole my portion of dads money with Josh’s help, and how he’s been giving you money since you went broke.”
Diane gasped. “That…that’s preposterous.” She stuttered. “Who told you such a thing? That man…those men out there? It’s not true. I love you honey!”
Jared huffed. “Save it.”
Diane shook her finger at her son. “How could you believe them over me? I’m your mother.”
“Some mother you’ve been. Why are you really here? Have you got some other man lined up to whore me out to already?” Jared asked, his voice getting louder and louder as all the anger and hurt resurfaced.
Diane’s hand flew to her chest as her mouth dropped open in surprise. “Don’t say such things! I’ve never…”
“I’m onto you now. I know how your devious mind works.” Jared quickly interrupted. He had no desire to listen to anymore of his mother’s lies. “But no longer. Your schemes won’t work anymore.”
“Darling…”
Jared shook his head and held up a hand to forestall her words. “My only question is what are you going to do now for money since Josh is rotting in prison? You think coming here and saying some sweet things to me will make me forget everything you’ve done to me? You think I’ll help you with money?” Jared inquired angrily. “Well think again.”
Diane’s face turned red with the beginning of her own anger.
“I’m kind of glad the FBI couldn’t find anything to charge you with. Cause now you’re going to have to work for your money. You have to go out and find a job. You’ll loose the house and your expensive cars and your socialite circle. You’ll work for minimum wage and have to make all your own meals and clean whatever shitty house you can afford.” Jared said with a bitter smile. “And there is no better punishment for you than that.”
“How can you say that to your own mother.” Diane asked with tears in her eyes, her face that was previously flushed red now turned white.
Jared shook his head with a serious expression on his face. “You’re not my mother. You’re nothing to me now. Get out.”
Diane opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted before she could make another plea.
“Get out!” Jared shouted. “I don’t ever want to see you again!”
Jared watched his mother turn and stomp from the room. Only once she was out of his sight did he let out his breath and relax back into the pillows behind him. He stared at the wall in front of him and was pleased to discover that he felt no negative emotions over everything he had just said to his mother.

Jensen paced back and forth across the waiting room worrying about Jared and Diane. He knew his lover was strong but he also knew Diane was a conniving bitch.
“Jen, sit down, there is nothing you can do right now. Just relax.” Steve said. He was sitting in between Chris and Chad as Jensen paced in front of them.
“I just…I feel like I want to hit something!” Jensen exclaimed not stopping his pacing.
“I could hold Diane down for you.” Chad suggested.
“I’ve got a bouncy ball you can throw.” Chris quipped.
Steve glared at Chris.
Jensen laughed and took a seat next to Chris. “Should I ask what that’s about?”
“No.” Steve and Chad quickly said before Chris could answer.
Jensen nodded and managed to sit still for about five minutes before his worry got the better of him again. “Fuck this.” He muttered as he stood up and left the waiting room, heading back down the hall to Jared’s room.
Jensen didn’t expect Jared to be alone. But as he walked through the door Diane was no where in sight and Jared was staring at the wall. “Hey…you okay?”
Jared sighed and nodded as he looked at Jensen. “Yeah.”
Jensen sat down next to Jared on the bed and put and an arm around his lover. “Diane is gone?”
Jared settled comfortably against Jensen’s side. “Yeah, gone for good.”
Jensen nodded slowly. “Sure you’re okay?”
Jared smiled slightly. “I really think I am…I think I’m going to be just fine.”
“I know you will be.” Jensen added with a smile of his own as he pulled Jared in for a kiss.
