Orlando’s eyes widened as he stepped through the door of Viggo’s cabin. This was not what he had expected. When Viggo had said his cabin, his mind automatically came up with a small square log cabin with a bed room and a kitchen. But this was amazing. It was made out of wood, but it was huge! It had a wide open living room with high ceilings. From his spot at the door Orlando could see spiral stairs that led up to a loft and a double glass door that led to what looked like a deck.
Viggo laughed quietly at the look on Orlando’s face. He looked like a child at Christmas that just got his look at all the presents under the tree. “I’ll give you a tour of the place a little later. First we will get you settled in.”
Orlando nodded and picked up his small suitcase that held everything he owned in it and followed Viggo around a corner and down a hallway that led to some stairs.
Viggo walked slowly up the steps. He had been wondering all day if he should set Orlando up in his room or give him a guest bedroom. He had no idea if Orlando would want to sleep alone now or with him still. Viggo had to admit that he still wanted to sleep with Orlando. Falling asleep at night with Orlando in his arms was heaven.
Making up his mind quickly he walked straight into his room and turned to Orlando. “You can stay in here if you want or I could give you one of the quest bedrooms. It’s up to you. There is one just down the hall.”
Orlando was about to reply that he wanted to stay with Viggo, but stopped suddenly. He wasn’t a child; he could stand to be alone at night now, especially since he wasn’t in LA anymore. He didn’t want Viggo to see him as some weak needy boy. He would never get Viggo’s respect if he kept clinging to the older man. “I’ll take the quest bedroom.” Orlando forced out, when really he wanted to be as close to the man as he could get.
“Oh…ok.” Viggo said as he tried to hide his disappointment. “This way then.” He led Orlando to a room down the hall. “You can put your clothes and other things in the closet or in the dresser, which ever you prefer. The bathroom is right next door to my room if you need to use it or store anything there. I’ll be down stairs in the kitchen seeing if we have anything for dinner. Come down when you’re finished and I’ll give you that tour.”
Orlando nodded as Viggo left the room. He sighed and quickly unpacked his stuff. He stopped off in the bathroom to put his toothbrush by the sink. His hands were shaking, but from what he didn’t know, maybe he was scared about tonight when he would heave to sleep alone. “Pull yourself together.” He whispered to himself. “Stop acting like a fucking five year old.” Once he got his body under control he left the bathroom and went downstairs.
Once at the bottom of the stairs he stopped as he realized he didn’t know where the kitchen was. His heart started to beat fast and his breathing hitched slightly. Where was Viggo? If he couldn’t find the kitchen then he couldn’t get to Viggo. His eyes darted around at the many doors and hallways he saw. He told himself to calm down. The cabin wasn’t that big, he could easily look around and find Viggo. Shaking his head at his own stupidity he started to poke his head into rooms as he passed by but nothing looked like a kitchen. He found himself back in the living room and quickly walked across it to the other side where a door was. Close to panicking again, he walked through it and let out a shaky breath in relief as he saw Viggo going through the refrigerator.
Viggo looked up as he heard the door swing open and saw a pale, shaking Orlando enter. “Hey, are you okay?” Viggo asked in concern as he walked over to the young man.
Orlando tried to calm down and shake it off. He ran his fingers through his hair and replied. “Yeah, I’m fine.”
Viggo didn’t believe him. “Then why are you trembling?” He reached out and grabbed Orlando’s hands close, bringing them close to his chest.
Orlando looked down as his eyes got a little teary. What was wrong with him? Squeezing his eyes shut to get rid of the tears he answered, “I…I just didn’t know where the kitchen was…where you were…”
Viggo sighed sadly as he mentally kicked himself. He knew Orlando’s got emotional and scared very easily. He forgot that Orlando hadn’t known where the kitchen was. He should have told him or at least stayed with him till he was done. Viggo put a finger under Orlando’s chin and raised his head up to look into misty eyes. “I’m sorry Orlando. I should have told you were it was.”
He pulled Orlando against him and gave him a hug, relieved when he felt Orlando relax against him as the tension drained out of his body.
“It’s alright.” Orlando said quietly, relaxing against Viggo’s chest. He felt better now and much calmer with Viggo’s arms around him.
Viggo lightly kissed Orlando’s head and said, “How about I give you that tour now?”
After a supper of homemade tacos, Viggo pushed away from the table and said to Orlando. “Follow me; there is something I want you to see.” He and Orlando went out onto the deck.
Orlando went over to the railing and looked down; below them on the ground level was a pond with a fountain in the middle of it. He could see many colorful fish swimming around. He looked out across the field that stretched out behind Viggo’s cabin. “It’s beautiful here.”
Viggo nodded as he leaned against the railing next to Orlando. He pointed over to the right where a big barn was. “That’s the stable; it’s where I keep my horses.”
Orlando looked over and asked, “Are there any in there?”
“Yeah, I have a friend who takes care of the horses and the house when I’m not here. We can go and see them tomorrow, maybe take them out for a ride.”
“I’ve never ridden a horse before.” Orlando remarked absentmindedly.
“Well I guess I will have to teach you.”
Orlando looked at Viggo and smiled. “Yeah.”
Viggo smiled back before he said, “This is what I wanted you to see.” He stretched his arm out and pointed at the setting sun.
Orlando looked and gasped at its brilliance. The sun was a rosy orange color and streaks of red, orange, pink, purple, and blue stretched across the sky. It was beautiful; something he hadn’t seen for many years. “It’s perfect.”
Both men stood there until the sun had set and night fell across the sky giving life to the millions of bright stars that twinkled above them.
Viggo watched Orlando and felt joy at the wonder and excitement that never left Orlando’s eyes since they had come out. He suddenly wished he had taken Orlando out of LA earlier and brought him here. He saw Orlando shiver out of the corner of his eye and stepped closer to him to wrap an arm around his shoulders.
Orlando felt coldness from the night air but he was so memorized by the stars he didn’t want to go in. When he started to shiver he felt Viggo wrap an arm around him and he leaned into the embrace seeking the warmth Viggo’s body offered.
“Do you want to go in?” Viggo asked. They had been out there for a few hours, but Viggo hadn’t been able to bring himself to part Orlando from his beloved stars.
Orlando shrugged. He was cold but he wanted to look at the stars more. He felt peaceful out here with Viggo at his side. He looked up at Viggo to discover Viggo’s face inches away from his. He looked into Viggo’s eyes and felt his heart beat fast and his breath hitch again, but this time it wasn’t from fear, it was some other emotion he couldn’t quite identify. The feeling in the pit of his stomach felt like hundreds of butterflies flying around. He swallowed hard when he started to wonder what Viggo’s was thinking, his eyes were filled with so much emotion, it scared him a little. He quickly looked down and said “I guess I am kind of tired.”
Viggo wasn’t sure what just happened. When Orlando had looked into his eyes he thought he saw some type of emotion there. He was drawn to Orlando. He had wanted to lean over and kiss him, but he knew he would probably scare Orlando and he didn’t want to destroy the trust he built up with him. Then suddenly Orlando had looked down and pulled away slightly.
Viggo nodded and said, “We can come out here tomorrow night, I’m pretty tired to from all that driving.”
They walked back into the house and up the stairs to the bedrooms. Before they parted Viggo asked, “Do you need anything before I go to sleep?”
Orlando shook his head.
“Ok then, good night. See you in the morning.” Viggo said as he watched Orlando walk into the quest bed room before he went into his.
Orlando climbed into the big bed and pulled the covers over him. It felt scary and weird to be sleeping in a bed without Viggo next to him. Sighing tiredly, he drifted off to sleep.
Orlando moaned as he rolled over in his sleep, tossing and turning from the dream he was having. Finally all his moving around woke him up, he sat up in bed with a small shout of fear, breathing hard, and for a second wondered where he was. He shivered and looked down as he realized he was drenched in sweat and shaking from the dreams he was having.
Suddenly he heard a noise come from somewhere outside and he froze where he sat, his eyes wide. Maybe the noise was just an animal…or maybe someone was breaking into the house. Viggo had locked up right?
Shaking even more he laid back down but another noise from outside had him scrambling from the bed to sit on the floor with the bed between him and the door. Oh god, had Mark found him? Maybe he was outside right now. Orlando let out a sob and looked around fearfully in the darkness to make sure no one was there. What should he do? Get Viggo. Viggo would protect him. He was about to move to the door when he heard a floorboard creak out in the hallway. He couldn’t stop the quiet sobs that came forth. They had found him! They were going to come in any minute now.
Orlando started to hyperventilate as he crouched by the bed. He was so terrified he couldn’t move and couldn’t breathe. Where was Viggo? Had they hurt him? Between his gasps he did the only thing he could think of, “Viggo!” he sobbed.
Viggo couldn’t get any sleep that night; he had been restless all night. He thought it might have something to do with Orlando not being there in bed with him. He rubbed his face and looked at the clock; it was two in the morning. He sighed as he rolled over and tried to fall asleep. His eyes snapped open though as he thought he heard Orlando shout. Not quite sure if he heard correctly or not Viggo waited a while to see if he heard anything else.
Nothing broke the quiet of the night except some animals outside and the floor boards creaking every once in a while. It was an old house, so it made some funny noises every once in a while.
He was about to turn roll over and go back to sleep again when he heard Orlando call out for him. He bolted out of bed and ran to Orlando’s room. When he got there he turned the lights on to discover the bed empty. “Orlando?” he called out.
He heard some muffled sobs coming from the other side of the bed. Quickly walking around the bed his heart jumped at what he saw. Orlando was curled up on the floor, shaking and breathing hard.
“Orlando!” Viggo cried in concern. He dropped to the floor and gathered Orlando in his arms. “It’s okay. Shhh!”
Orlando shook his head, “They…are…here…for…me…” he sobbed out while gasping for air. He couldn’t seem to get a deep breathe and it was scaring him.
Viggo rocked Orlando back and forth trying to sooth him. “No one is here Orlando, your safe. I promise you.”
At this point Orlando was gasping for breath so hard he couldn’t respond.
Viggo tightened his hold on the trembling man and said. “Just breathe Orlando. Take deep breaths.”
Orlando shook his head frantically while clutching his chest. “I…can’t…”
Viggo was now becoming really scared by how blue tinged Orlando’s lips were becoming. He frantically wondered if he should call the hospital. He thought Orlando might be having a panic attack, his older brother use to get them every once in a while and he remembered the hopeless feeling he always got when he couldn’t help him.
Trying something he had seen on TV before, he uncurled Orlando’s body and moved him so Orlando’s back was pressed against his chest. Orlando’s head slumped onto his shoulder as his hands fisted into Viggo’s pajama pants trying to ground himself to awareness. “Breathe deep Orlando! Come on baby! Breathe with me!” He pushed down on Orlando’s chest as he let air out of his own body and when he took a breath he took his hand off, trying to force Orlando to breathe with him.
Orlando tried his best to match Viggo’s breathing but he was dizzy from lack of oxygen and couldn’t concentrate. “Viggo!” He gasped out really scared now that he couldn’t get his lungs to work properly.
Close to panicking himself, Viggo covered Orlando’s eyes with one hand to keep him from looking towards the door, while he kept the other on Orlando’s chest. He whispered soothing words into Orlando’s ear and finally after a few minutes, it seemed to take effect because Orlando started to breathe better.
They sat there for a good fifteen minutes before Orlando could breathe normally again. Orlando slumped down in Viggo’s arms and panted as he got his breath back, his heart racing. Viggo wiped a mixture of tears and sweat from Orlando’s face as he cradled the young man against him.
“You’re okay now.” Viggo soothed as he stroked Orlando’s damp hair and kissed his forehead. “I think you had a panic attack, you ever had a panic attack before?”
Orlando shook his head, lying limp in Viggo’s lap. The episode had taken all his energy and he felt like he could fall asleep right there.
“What happened?” Viggo asked.
Orlando took a deep breath and said, “Bad dreams…and then I heard noises and got scared…I thought they were here.” He had been so sure they would get him.
Viggo let it drop as he heard Orlando’s breath hitch again. Not wanting to send him into another attack he changed the subject. “Come on; let’s get you off the floor.”
Orlando clutched to Viggo as he was helped up and his emotions crumbled, “I don’t want to be alone…please don’t leave me here! I thought I could do it, but…but I can’t!” Orlando pleaded.
“Shhhh, it fine, I won’t leave you. You can sleep with me again. It’s okay.” Viggo wrapped his arms around Orlando and led him to the door. How about we get you cleaned up first, okay?” Viggo asked calmly as he finally realized Orlando was soaked through with sweat.
He led Orlando to the bathroom and turned the shower on to warm up. When he looked over at Orlando his heart broke as he took in the pale trembling boy. Orlando had his arms wrapped around himself to keep warm or for protection Viggo wasn’t sure which one but he slowly took a few steps over so he could wrap the boy in his arms. His heart fluttered at the way Orlando instantly relaxed against him and returned the hug.
After a few minutes Viggo pulled away and asked, “Ready?” He got a shaky nod in reply and helped Orlando lift his damp shirt off. He turned around respectively as Orlando took his pants off and stepped into the shower. “I’ll just go get you some clean clothes, okay?”
“No!” Orlando gasped out instantly. “Please don’t leave me. I’ll be quick…just don’t leave!”
Viggo couldn’t deny Orlando anything so he nodded and sat down on the closed toilet to wait. Orlando was finished within five minutes and stepped out with a big towel wrapped around him looking very unsure of himself.
Viggo smiled and got up. “Let’s get you some clothes.”
Orlando followed Viggo to the bedroom and quickly changed into the warm clothes that Viggo handed to him. Then he used the towel to dry his hair as best he could.
As Viggo stood waiting for Orlando, he noticed that Orlando still trembled slightly as he held on to the towel. “You can just throw that on the floor, we can pick it up tomorrow.”
Orlando just nodded and climbed into bed, never once looking at Viggo. He felt ashamed of himself that he still couldn’t control his emotions and had to be around Viggo at all times to feel safe. He was embarrassed about his episode earlier. What would Viggo think of him now? He would probably hate him and the fact that he was so weak and needy. He wanted nothing more than to cry his sorrows away, but not wanting to embarrass himself further, he just sighed as laid down and waited for Viggo to get in. He tensed when the lights were turned out but relaxed slightly when he felt Viggo’s warmth against him a few seconds later. Viggo would keep him safe.
Viggo wrapped his arm around Orlando as he snuggled up to Orlando’s back, trying to offer some comfort and a feeling of safety. Orlando had been tense when he had gotten into bed and he could see Orlando’s eyes darting around the room looking for intruders in the darkness.
“Relax Orlando, your safe.” Viggo soothed as he ran his hand up and down Orlando’s arm. “Close your eyes and go to sleep. I’m here, I’ll watch over you.” He felt Orlando release a shaky breath but the eyes didn’t close so he moved his hand up to caress Orlando’s forehead and temple slowly moving it downward until his hand passed over the eye lids and forced them shut. He laid his head right behind Orlando’s so his mouth was by Orlando’s ear and started to hum lightly.
Orlando finally relaxed and he felt himself drifting to sleep as Viggo soothed him with his voice. Just before sleep washed over him he felt a light kiss on his temple and a sweet goodnight in his ear and thought that maybe Viggo didn’t hate him after all.
