So... my philosophy professor is running for president.

Yes, president of the united states.

Apparently one of his students was convinced that the type of logic taught in Philosophy 102 is pretty much useless because the average American would never understand, or want to understand, how it works--citing the way politicians constantly speak in simplified "sound bytes" and seem to dance around issues. The professor disagreed, claiming that anyone could understand the simple statements which made up most logical arguments, and citing the idea that if millions can be convinced of a complete lie by a three minute clip on youtube (he has often considered making a class project of lying through youtube) telling them the truth should be easy.

I guess the student decided to challenge him, and he soon announced that he (with his class, of course) would run for president to demonstrate that the material taught in Philosophy 102 could be used to make better and more understood decisions than have been made for the last 30 years. Students' successful term papers will become policy, and outlets like youtube and myspace will be the means of broadcasting his campaign and policies, which will be presented exactly as they are presented in class. Donations will be accepted by paypal--no more than five to ten dollars a person and therefore no special interest group funding.

And yes, he is completely serious.

I kind of like the idea, actually. He's one of the most confident and educated people I've met. If this should work, he'd actually make a pretty interesting candidate. Plus, the lulz would be great.
