One Last Time

This is what happened when you try to let go. An R/K drabble for those who tried, but ultimately failed.

The moonlight was pale, silver and forgiving against their skin. They didn’t say anything, no whispers nor murmurs, no names in between their gasps and soft moans. Hands, familiar and warm, grazed each bare thread of skin in slow reverence, memorizing and learning and burning. She never took her eyes off of him, brave and strong against his resigned and loving gaze. She traced his mouth with her fingers, his lips damp, pink and innocently seductive. His blue eyes met hers, bright and daunting with questions and declarations he’d now never get to say.

So she kissed him, pressed their bare chest closer, till his beating heart echoed against hers. He was still breathtaking amidst the wreckage they’ve once called sanctuary.

He skimmed his nose against her neck, kneaded her scalp with his hands, and molding her to him with each thrust and warm breath.

He’s holding on to her, folded and unfolded and folding all around her one last time.

She lets herself linger, sweeping their shattered elusion to the back of her mind.

She was never good at goodbyes.

But the glint of the diamond ring on her finger made her leaned forward, and kissed him a final time.
