I had a hard time falling asleep last night - I have a phobia about suffocating in my sleep when I'm very congested, which is not very conducive to peacefully drifting off to slumber. I reluctantly awoke this morning, popped my contacts in, brushed my teeth, and went to change - only to discover that there was a dying, overturned cockroach on the floor between my bed and desk. (Please note that this is a high traffic area that I had trod only moments ago to get to my alarm clock and hit the snooze button.) I screamed - but only a strange, half-guttural sound came out. And then I realized that I had completely lost my voice.
Not sure which one out of the three - potential suffocation, cockroach, loss of voice - was the most terrifying.
