Bonne et heureuse année à tous!

I'm late, as usual, and I apologise for my lack of comments to your posts, but the holiday has been insanely busy, and I don't think I've spent more than a hour on LJ in the last week: we had three Christmas parties (thanks to my husband's complicated family), then we spent five days in Paris, then we had three New Year parties... *gags* You know it's going to be bad when you have to take Alka-Seltzer before New Year's Eve dinner.

But the new year is still young enough to allow a little celebration, isn't it? And it's a calorie free celebration, although I must warn you it's so sweet that it might causes cavities in sensitive people...

Title: Champagne
Pairing: Sean/Elijah
Word count: 300 (a tribble)
Rating: PG
A/N: many thanks to dear annwyn55, whose gorgeous icon was, once again, the inspiration for this vignette.

Elijah made a lovely drunk, Sean thought as he watched his lover snort into his flute and inhale champagne bubbles. But then, there wasn't a lot of things about Elijah that Sean didn't found lovely. Even the ensuing sneezing fit, which left him watery-eyed and pink-nosed, couldn't mar his beauty, nor lessen the pride Sean felt at being seen with him in such a select and popular restaurant on New Year's Eve.

Sean handed Elijah a perfectly ironed hanky and smiled serenely at the middle-aged couple sitting at the table next to theirs. The woman had been flashing Elijah and him curious and mildly disapproving glances ever since the beginning of the evening, whereas her husband was studiously ignoring them. Both attitudes didn't bother Sean. After going through a scandalous divorce and an even more scandalous coming out last year, he had become quite immune to the scorn or indiscreet interest complete strangers felt entitled to express about his love life. He did allow his smile to grow sarcastic as the woman met his gaze and hastily looked away, though. Not exactly chivalrous of him, certainly, but these days he was inclined to save his loftiest sentiments for the man sitting across from him.

“God, I'm sorry, Seanie... but that was the worst joke ever,” Elijah wheezed, giggling breathlessly, his nose still buried in Sean's handkerchief, blue eyes twinkling above the white fabric. Sean felt his smile soften and he raised his own glass in salute. He was about to take a sip when a few people started to count down, the other guests following suit enthusiastically.

Sean didn't count. He just got up, took Elijah in his arms, and as midnight struck in a chorus of cheers, he kissed him, proudly, openly, tasting champagne and happiness on Elijah's lips.

I hope everybody will have a wonderful year, filled with love, happiness and great stories to read!
