Fic: Five time Clark realizes what he lost by letting Lex go (PG, 1980 words)

Apr 22, 2007 15:08

ladydey gave me the prompt: "5 Times Clark Realizes what he lost by letting Lex go - and One time he actually did something about it." It turned out mostly futurefic and has my usual mix of 'verses. The pieces are mostly in chronological order, although as you'll notice #2 and #3 extend over a long time.

I truly believe that a lot of Clark's and Lex's problems stem from the fact that they are both so young

Yeah. Lex may be older, but he's just as inexperienced when it comes to friendship. And Clark has only ever been friends with fairly normal people. And then they completely fixated on each other. It's no wonder they made so many mistakes.

Also Lex and Clark were really really invested in their relationship and cared for each other in a deeper way, then I think that Clark cares for Ollie - every slight is/was deeper
Clark doesn't care about Ollie as much as he cared about Lex, definitely not. But Ollie cares a lot about Clark, I think, he respects and admires him, even while he envies him, we saw that in "Rage". I think that Ollie sees something that Lex never really fully accepted, though, namely that Clark is young and still fumbling around, looking for his way. Ollie doesn't look at Clark for moral guidance.

I love how even though Lex was poking at Clark for coming back from the dead stupider, he was still trying to protect ( ... )

In the aftermath of #5, they might end up in bed, although Clark hopefully has learned enough to handle it well and take his time. Lex hasn't really had much opportunity to get better at this friendship thing, so Clark bears all the responsibility now.

Yeah, it's sad that they were both socially stunted for so long. I have hope that if Clark can bend enough to offer the bottle of wine, that he an Lex can get to a place where they are really there for each other as friends, who might become more later.

wow--that just knocked me out. I loved two and three especially--I like the way Clark's grown as a person here, how he's really Superman. Lovely last line, too.

Eeee. I could feel my heart breaking with all of these. And the end, that he's finally grown enough to step forward and extend his hand and try again...yes!

And I can't see how Bruce could ever not remind Clark of Lex. They're similarly damaged and similarly amazing in too many ways...

If you take comics Bruce (toonverse Bruce is a different story), then he's quite an ambiguous, difficult guy for someone like Superman to be friends with.

Pretty much every "bad" thing Lex did up to S6 is covered by Bruce, and then some. I mean: investigating friends, obsessive behaviour, willingly endangering innocents (the Robins and other bat-minors), promiscuous sexual behaviour (covered by the playboy persona), developing dangerous weapons (Brother Eye)... if SV!Clark is going to deal with this kind of Batman in the future, he would have to re-examine his choices with Lex.

Maybe all Clark lost was a dream. A little piece of hope and faith that nothing will ever replace, nothing will ever rebuild.

Beautiful line! It rings so true it makes me wanna cry for Clark, despite all his normal asshattery of the past few seasons! ^_- The first one really reads like a song or poem, so eloquently put! So saaad!

He learned a lot about methods, about ends and means, and about how easily wanting the right thing can make you think you're doing the right thing.

THANK YOU, love this line! Rather sums up Ollie and his little ragtag bunch quite nicely!

Sometimes he thinks a bottle of wine and some neutral ground would do them good.

And some nice hot sex! Don't forget the sex! ^_-

Maybe, in hindsight, it wasn't fair that Clark used such high standards for Lex.

Oh geeee Clark, ya think?!

"Is there anything in particular that you wanted or did you just miss me?"

Now, I know it goes against your nature, but answer truthfully Clark! ^_-

Clark shakes his head. "This is my legacy." Then he reaches into his bag and ( ... )

But it's Lex! How could Clark not hold him up to high standards? He was obviously the most awesome guy Clark had ever met at age 15 :P

looking forward to more and more and more!
Yay! Although I probably won't get more prolific than a fic a day ;)
