DW: A Good Man Goes To War

Huh. So... I didn't hate that? In fact I mostly liked it? *is baffled*

1) River Song's identity: a bit boring, more than a bit squicky, but otherwise fine with me. Poor Amy and Rory, though, your child is so messed-up. I feel sorry for them.

2) The whole "goes to war" was not nearly as bad as I thought! I have a weakness for "assemble your party of awesome warriors and misfit outcasts" stories (probably every roleplayer does) and I liked that the showdown was rather clever and non-violent before the monks got back - it seems that the Doctor's plan was really to get the bad guys to disarm themselves and then let them go, which is GOOD. Tonight the Doctor felt doctorish to me.

3) I loved the little speech Amy gave about centurion!Rory and Rory's badassness and crying and stuff was all good. He's pretty great, although I wish it didn't came at Amy's expense, and she didn't have to be such a damsel in distress.

4) I liked that the enemy army was humanized by giving us not one, but three sympathetic soldiers.

5) The Doctor's cot: awwww. Did the headboard look like a Time Lord hat/collar? Yes, it did a bit.

6) The Seven Samurai or however many they were: Silurian Lady and Girlfriend were remarkably cool (didn't we meet this Silurian before? She looked very much like the one from S5 to me!), pirates still lame, Sontaran was AWESOME with his "And I hope we'll meet in battle one day and now get some rest!"

7) But when I saw blue guy, for a moment there I went, ".... Kalid? Is that you?" only of course it's not, because Master-as-Kalid is not blue and has a beard. So I don't know where that came from, except I guess blue guy looked a bit like a fat genie.

So yeah. No Moffat-Era-Hate from me this week, because I went in with abysmal expectations and it wasn't at all like that. It ranks as my second favorite episode this series.
