A/N: Yeah, when I found out that detail about Loki, I just had to write it. XD

The only sounds were chirps from cheerful songbirds, gentle moos from lazy cows, and gurgling and bubbling from the stream that flowed next to the meadow.

A sharp-featured, well-toned, tanned young woman picked through the field to find a small bunch of wildflowers while the cows replenished their stores of milk and there was nothing else to do. Her long skirt and simple blouse were white, the red top over it laced neatly and her hair contained under a red cap. Her twin pigtails swung low as she bent to add a daisy to her little collection, then tucked the small bunch of flowers behind an ear.

She perched on the fence, arranging her skirts around her as she watched the animals, then glanced around. She knew perfectly well that there were eyes on her, and she acted all the more innocent as she sat there for a few minutes to enjoy the sun, then moved to the banks of the stream to lie there and nap for a little while.

The farm boy who watched her every day had no idea what he was in for as he approached. It wasn't just a milkmaid who had appeared two years ago and worked so well in the meadow, tirelessly caring for the cows and milking them day in and day out. It wasn't even just a demi-god posing as a human. It was an archangel posing as a pagan demi-god posing as a human.

The archangel Gabriel, to be precise.

Gabriel yawned as she stretched, settling down against the warm rocks and finding a comfortable spot, arranging her skirts around her and listening to the footsteps of the farm boy as he approached with much less grace, but more eager haste.

Pretending to be unaware still of his presence, she reached up to loosen the ties on her little vest, hearing the slight intake of breath that prompted.

He cleared his throat to announce his presence, and she allowed herself to flick an eye open and then smile up at him. “Oh... hello.”

“Hi,” he greeted in return, gingerly sitting next to her. “Got no work to do, so...” he trailed off. They'd sit and talk sometimes, or she'd tuck flowers in his pockets and giggle and skip away, or he'd bring her some crisp, fresh vegetables that she'd turn into some kind of delicious food and share with him.

Today, though, she sensed that he wanted more. She nodded, hitching her skirt up just slightly to show a glimpse of ankle that he hadn't seen before, and noticed the flicker of gaze and the nervous gulp it produced. “Looking for something to do?” she giggled provocatively, turning her head to the side to meet his gaze.

Humans really were so easy to snare, she thought as she felt him drawing closer. It was still so much more peaceful than any other environment, so much simpler. If they wanted, they could have sex. If she became pregnant, she'd have children. So straightforward and interesting, so different from his other lives. No worrying about demonic activity, keeping a child from biting off a god's hand, or anything of the sort.

After the farm boy had gotten what he'd wanted and Gabriel what she'd wanted, she just lay with him in the silence until the sun went down. Human life was the easy sort.
