Jury Duty

Jul 23, 2005 16:57

Friday was officially a hellish day.

I was called for Jury Duty, which consisted of me waking up at 6:30 in the morning only to show up at 7:45 over in Downtown L.A., and sit. For four and a half hours. Luckily I brought Harry Potter. Got through a good 350 pages. Then I was called on a Jury panel on the high-security floor. Lovely. They let me go to lunch before I had to appear.

Being on Jury Duty does have its minimal advantages. One of them being that you get into MOCA free. So I walked to MOCA. Browsed the galleries. And realized why I just don't "get" contemporary/modern art. Well, at least not this stuff. It was your stereotypical "A mentally challenged three year old with a paint brush could do the same thing and elicit the same response from me." Regardless, I'm glad I didn't pay to get in.

Back on the panel, I was amongst 43 people that could possibly be on a case that involved armed home invasion robbery at gunpoint. They needed 12 people. a good 23 people made up excuses to leave. I probably should have done the same, but I felt bad lying. Especially in court. That just felt like an especially bad idea. So by the time it was 'over' it was 4:30 PM. And they still hadn't decided on the jury. Meaning I head back bright n' early Monday morning. Great.
