Meanwhile, I need some winter boots

I spent an hour in town this afternoon trying on winter boots in the three shops that sell them here and I can't find any I like at all. Added to this is the fact that I have relatively wide calves (calfs?) which can make boot buying a bit traumatic.  I would really like a pair of knee length purple boots (suede or leather) and/or a pair of smart but funky black leather ones too - neither of which can have a spindly heel (I prefer flats).  It's not even like I saw any that I really liked in town so the size issue was pretty irrelevant.  It sucks for shopping living in a small town :-/

So if any of you out there have seen any funky boots anywhere (in the UK preferably), let me know.
