I overslept and missed my class...fuck. That's ok because i'm listening to T.Rex while downloading new widgets for my PowerBook...cuz i'm just awesome like that.
So, the recent movies i've seen have been just great.
Serenity was kick ass. It was better that Episode III and had more style and character than any non-franchise sci-fi anything i've seen since Fifth Element. Being a huge fan of the show, Firefly, i knew i'd like the movie but i was so utterly blow out of the water by the way Whedon took so many risks, story wise, and created such a wholesome and satisfying experience. More satisfying than LOST has been in the past month, at least. I'd give it a 4/5 for pure enjoyment and the balls Whedon has on him. May he continue to wow us all with his genius.
Kontroll was shockingly good. I had been excited about this movie since i intitially saw the trailer in spring but finally got off my ass and took a chace by renting it. For a debut film, Nimrod Antal really has solidified himself as one of the most promising directors to follow in the footsteps of Kubrick, Saura, or Boyle. I know, thats quite a compliment, but i'm not saying interms of thier brilliance, more along the lines of the type of psycological & visual style. The first hour and half was very interesting and beautiful, slightly quirky, and mysteriously ominous. The last 20+ minutes are what made the previous 90 so great. I sat for house with Dade and we talking about the possible meanings behind the flick and i think we've come to a consensus, and i think it just makes the movie better. If you've seen the movie, let's talk, otherwise, go see it. 4/5
Farewell My Concubine was hard to watch. The movie seemed like it was about 6 hours long, which might have been my fault for watching it in segments for 4 days but the story progressed in way that seemed longer than it was. It was quite the epic and emotional film but i just didn't like any of the characters. None of them had nearly anything redeamable except the prostitute Juxian (played by the legendary Gong Li), and that's not saying much. I was definatly intrigued but the movie just didn't do it for me. But it was nice to see the effect the Japanese invasion of China had on these people...that was it's saving grace in my mind.
3/5
Ermo was just a Chinese Almodovar film. It's resemblance to "What Have I Done to Deserve This?" was uncanny. Than in itself made it good. Very quirky, dry humor, with a slightly unrelistic story told so convincingly that i forgot the absyrdity of it. It was a nice experience. I don't have too much more to say on it...it's a pretty simple reveiw. 3.5/5
I got Altered States, Jacob's Ladder, and eXistenZ in the mail recently and i'm pumped. What awesome movies. I mean, come on, Jacob's Ladder is creepy as hell. Looking forward to a movie marathan with the next door neighbors.
LOST was SOOOOOOOO disappointing last night!. GOD! This is 5 consequtive weak backstories. NOTHING has been revealed except the info from the Orientation video, which was awesome, but that's it! Not even an episode closer last night, COME ON! I think the problem with LOST is not particularly the show but the greedy-ass audience, personified by me...the one's who's obsessed. Despite that there was not much substance to the last five episodes. They are hardcore draggin it out now, and it better pick up soon or else...who am I kidding, i will watch every episode LOST will ever have, but i don't wanna feel like a cheated lover... But Mr. Echo is, as i predicted, an utter bad ass and seeing the others (from the knees down) was totally spine-chillingly awesome. The show will get better once the Ana Lucia group meets up with the Jack group and Desmond returns, which will happen in Episode 8. 3/5
Here's a rundown of the next 3 episodes
S2.06 "Abandoned" - Shannon's Backstory: probably about her father that was killed by Sara, Jack's one-time wife
S2.07 "The Other 48 Days" - Ana Lucia/Mr. Echo/Libby/Bernard Story, possible Ana-Lucia Backstory(?): It will be amazing to see what happened to the other group of survivors on the island
S2.08 "Cosmos" - Charlie Backstory: I don't know where this one will go, but Liam, his brother, should be in it.
On another note, Invasion was fucking brilliant last night. This show is just so god dammed good, it scares me. Remember that feeling of watching season 1 of LOST? This show is doing it for me now, almost as strongly as well. I'm calling it now, William Fitchner Emmy for Best Actor in a Drama Series. Serously, this show looks like it's filmed by Spielberg and the characters are just so well done, not to mention Larkin and Merill's inherent hotitude. But Fitchner steals the show as the creepy sheriff in charge of quarentining a city in the aftermath of a hurricane that was a front for an alien invasion while he himself is an alien and has converted his wife as well...but she doesn't even know yet. By the way, that's just the info from the Pilot. This show rocks. 4.5/5
I have so many unplayed video games it's sickening.
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Dark Cloud
./hack 2
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Maximo
Phantom Brave
Grandia
Bujingai: The Forsaken City
etc.
Will i ever play them? Stay tuned
And Samir was right, i forgot to mention the Super Furry Animals concert in ATL on Nov. 12th. Ever since i first heard this band in 10th grade i've considered them my favorite band. Due to the awesomeitude of their 7th album, Love Kraft, i am fully prepared to have my face melted during songs like "Psyclone!", "Back on a Roll," and "Atomic Lust." Watch out!
Sarah explicitly said she interested in watching some Cowboy Bebop with me. How awesome is that? 5/5
She'll enjoy it, it's a fun show. She'll also enjoy the gift i got her which will arrive in the mail sometime next week. I do enjoy giving her stuff to make her squeal in joy.
