一一 Yi Yi [A One and a Two], 2000. Dir. 杨德昌 Edward CHANG. Acted 吳念真 WU Nien-jen, Jonathan CHANG, Kelly LEE, 金燕玲 Elaine JIN, イッセー尾形 Issei OGATA.
I've had this movie since, um, May & finally got around to watching it - I was a touch intimidated by the length (clocking in at nearly 3 hours), but it turned out to be a good movie to curl up with while laid up with bronchitis. I've also had a mixed CD of Taiwanese musical goodies on constant play that came in my box 'o love from
woquinoncoin, so a nostalgic trip to Taipei fit ....
A family story, following three generations of a family through personal crises. It was slow and meditative - my eyes strained to find familiar streets and sights. A nice contemplation of a whole slice of life, from grownup midlife crises to teenage first love to troublemaking youngsters.
A lot to absorb, but I can see why it was critically acclaimed (even if I'm not quite so sure it needed to be quite as long as it was!). Issei Ogata was wonderful as a videogame exec in one of my favorite subplots.
