this evening i am going to see sylvia at the cineworld film festival. they have the films playing at burns court, which is a small purple building hidden behind downtown cafes. [of else playing at the fest, i also want to see "in america" (and the several films in matthew barney's "cremaster" series being shown, sort of.... but really only because bjork had his baby- hence, people have been discussing his art on my bjork newsgroup, and i'm curious about it)]. but i digress. as usual.

i was wondering if any of my plath-obsessed LJ friends have seen it yet (or if you are boycotting it LOL) and what you think/thought. i know, i should go to the plath community to discuss this. also, i should have already read any entries by friends who have commented on it. but i have only just recently returned to LJ, and am still behind.

i really doubt that paltrow can access plath, but still have to see the movie... because it *is* about sylvia! it's kind of like when salma hayek was playing frida kahlo. i know these well-meaning actresses can't do justice to such great women, and fully expect to find fault with the movies even when i'm entering them, but still. i'm interested in seeing them.

i do LOVE love love love seeing the settings of their lives recreated, for one thing. as in the Blue House, in frida. one complaint that could be made about that movie is that recreating pretty mexican costumes & such is just about all is does (more style than substance), right? BUT i'm really aesthetic, so even knowing that flaw i go see it because it gets me caught up in the romance of it all.

and tho i'm not a fan of gwyneth or salma, at least the roles didn't go to anyone i loathe. (did you know jennifer lopez wanted to play frida?! YIPES!!!)

plus, at least those kind of movies get more young people interested in finding out more about the artist.

p.s. isn't this movie about her later years? i'm not sure, but seems i heard that.
anyway i would be interested in seeing one that at least includes her "bell jar" years, if not focuses on them.
