However, all good things must come to an end at some time.

When the owner of a dome child reaches 18, they have a choice whether or not to free said dome child, or keep them for as long as they want. Doojoon opted for the former, regretfully. It was a sad moment between the two, but they promised to remain friends, even though they would never see each other as frequently as before.

Once Ki Kwang was no longer in his life, Doojoon felt empty, like he needed someone to be with him at all times. Someone to cuddle with, someone to talk to, someone to be friends with forever and ever. He knew his wishes sounded extremely childish, but hey, you can’t expect much from a guy with little to no friends.

His plan for college you ask? It failed. Miserably. And once he realized that he could never go to college, he just as quickly regretted his decision to let go Ki Kwang.

He knew he could never find another dome-child friend like Ki Kwang, but no one said he couldn’t try.

After settling into an apartment his mom bought for him in the city, he immediately went to the nearest “Dome Friends” store. Sadly enough, he knew the place by heart. He knew the workers, the workers knew him, and he knew every route to the dome child store. He was a freak alright.

Soon after entering, one of the workers noticed him, calling out, “Doojoon!~” in a voice that suggested they were familiar.

He turned around and saw the worker coming towards him, “Oh, hey Junhyung, what’s up?”

“What’s up? C’mon, what are you here for? Does Ki Kwang need more shots?” he laughed heartily and held his stomach. Junhyung was always like this, using unfunny banter about his job to break the ice.

Doojoon sniffed, “U-umm,” wiped his eyes, “I-…u-uh, let him go…” and sniffed again.

“O-…-oh…” Junhyung stopped laughing, wringing the hem of his uniform shirt, awkwardly trying to make this horrible situation he got himself into, better. “I-…I’m sorry, Doojoon.”

“N-no, it’s okay, w-we’re still friends and all. W-we j-just,” he took a deep inhale, filling his lungs with much needed air, “j-just don’t see each other as often as we used to. He moved on, and s-so-…so have I.”

It was obvious however, that he hadn’t. There would always be a special place in Doojoon’s heart for Ki Kwang, and no pet could replace that spot.

But, again, who said he couldn’t try?

“Did you want a new one?” Junhyung broke the awkward, 2 minute silence and asked a question that would have earned him a smack if he were to say it 5 months ago.

“A-actually, I did,” Doojoon’s eyes were watering, but he still managed to flash a smile at Junhyung. At least someone was trying to help him out. “I-…are there any domekids like Ki Kwang? A-around his age too?”

Doojoon was a little embarrassed about his request. Everyone knew that asking for a slightly grown domechild was like asking North Korea to not invade South Korea. The chances of actually finding one around the ages of 14-18 are slim to none. The domechildren that reach those ages were usually domekids that nobody wanted, or domechildren that were largely overlooked in the selection catalog.

“You’re in luck, Doojoonie…” Junhyung smiled.

Doojoon smiled back, wiping his watery eyes, his heart beating at the mere prospect of having another best friend. “R-really? You have one?”

Junhyung ran to the back room and came out with the D.C Catalog, or DomeChild Catalog. The catalog held every known domechild up for adoption in the immediate area, and it included the child’s stats, their personalities, and a full body picture.

“Here, I think you’d like him,” Junhyung flipped through the pages and pointed at the picture of the domechild that Doojoon might like.

“Yoseob?”

“He’s a real cutie, huh,” a grin plastered Junhyung’s face as he started to mentally pull out adoption papers for this domechild.

“Y-yeah,” Doojoon ran his fingers over the picture of the smiley boy.

The blond thing was beyond cute. Its smile was deadly, immediately piercing Doojoon’s heart. Doojoon needed this domechild.

One question would decide the entire adoption for Doojoon.

“How old is he?”

“17. Too young for you?”

Doojoon shook his head with a silly smile on his lips. He’s perfect, he added mentally.

Within minutes the socially deprived man was signing the numerous papers needed to make the adoption of a domechild official. Doojoon’s heart was pounding and he hoped to God that Junhyung didn’t recognize his horrible representation of himself as a complete freak and total loner.

“Excited?” but he did.

“A-…a little,” Doojoon replied with an even bigger smile on his lips.

Junhyung took the pen from Doojoon once everything that needed a signature was signed, “you’re all done here, buddy. We’ll get him to you in a week, congratulations.”

The two shook hands across the table and Doojoon almost lost it. He was so happy, unbelievably happy in fact, that he had found a domechild that he can restart with, build a new relationship with, and be eternal buddies with.

Doojoon left the store with the same goofy smile…

…completely unaware of what he got himself into.

It had been an entire week since the signage of the adoption papers, and Doojoon was beyond nervous.

The moment after he signed the legal documents, he went off to a plethora of stores, spending tons of cash just to get everything ready for his new domechild. He even called his mother AND Ki Kwang to tell them about the good news, to which both of them replied, “I’m so happy you’re moving on, good for you, Doojoonie.” It warmed his heart to know his own family and friend were backing him up in this decision. It made him feel even better about adopting a new domechild.

The day he was supposed to be receiving his new friend, he was sitting in his favorite chair, his hands gripping at the seat, even though the rest of his body was calm. He wanted him now, he needed someone to be here with him, and to know that the someone was to be at his house at any minute, drove him insane.

He was fed up with waiting. Doojoon walked over to the phone and dialed the “Dome Friends” store number, and just as it started to ring, a knock came to the door.

“Sir, we have a domechild here for you,” a man called on the outside of his apartment door.

Doojoon’s heart started to race once again, “c-coming!”

He walked towards the door, feeling like he was the subject of a drama, a thriller, or some other genre where the people are always slowly opening doors. He did just that.

When he looked at the thing standing there, he felt his mind flashback to the moment Ki Kwang was gifted to him. He felt so good inside, something he hadn’t felt in a long time, since letting Ki Kwang go.

The picture honestly did the domechild no justice. He was much brighter in person, his ears perkier, and his smile was overwhelmingly heartwarming.

A split second of déjà vu, “are you my master?”

It smiled wide as the transport turned and headed back to his car.

“I-…I am.”

Gosh, Doojoon could have sworn he got over meeting new people, but he realized that he hadn’t. His new domechild left him so dumb founded, he couldn’t even find any words to say to him.

The little blond 17 year old tackled his new owner and hugged him tight, nuzzling his head in Doojoon’s chest, “Hi master!” he yelped, his smile and personality searing its permanent mark in Doojoon’s heart.

“H-hi…Yoseob,” Doojoon replied with a smile, patting his new friend’s blond hair, as he did with Ki Kwang, years ago.
