From Viz
Nanami Momozono is alone and homeless after her dad skips town to evade his gambling debts and the debt collectors kick her out of her apartment. So when a man she's just saved from a dog offers her his home, she jumps at the opportunity. But it turns out that his place is a shrine, and Nanami has unwittingly taken over his job as a local deity!

Nanami has all kinds of new responsibilities she doesn't understand, dangers she's unaware of, and a cranky ex-familiar who's...actually pretty hot. What's a new-fledged godling to do?

Some points:
- from the author of Karakuri Odette.
- I really like Tomoe and his attitudes - they are very entertaining :)
- Poor Onikiri and Kotetsu - they are forever the go-betweens :D

Bottom line, a delightful series, I will get #2.

21. 10 volumes of The Queen's Knight (여왕의 기사).

Art and Story by Kim Kang Won

From Tokyopop
Vol 1: 15-year-old Yuna Lee goes for a walk - wallowing in self pity - and promptly falls down a snowy cliff. When she awakens, she sees a long-haired regal young man (Rieno) building a fire ... and she also notices that she can't move one of her legs. Rieno promises to watch over Yuna, if she becomes his wife, the Queen of the magical land of Phantasma ...
Vol 2: Now that Yuna is Queen of Phantasma, the dashing knight Rieno doesn't want her to go back to her home. Yuna's heart is torn between returning to Germany and moving forward with her new life as queen. She attempts to leave...but finds herself drawn to Rieno's castle. Is Phantasma truly her destiny?
Vol 3: Yuna is angry with Rieno after eavesdropping on his decision to send her away from his castle... but that doesn't stop her from receiving his "dreamy" kiss. Now known as Queen Yuna, she awakens at Elysian and is introduced to her three Guardian Knights. What Yuna doesn't know is that the Three Guardian Knights are part of a plot devised by Phantasma's elders. To make matters worse, Rieno has accepted Princess Liberia's request to become her knight! Can a jealous Yuna win over Rieno, or is it a case of unrequited love?
Vol 4: After Yuna's coronation, a tournament is held in celebration. The winner of the two-day tournament will be awarded the title of "The Knight of Coronet" and given a floral coronet. Even Rieno, who has not participated in a tournament since the previous Queen of Phantasma called forth the original eternal winter, joins in. However, behind the scenes Yuna and Libera make a wager on the tournament--and Rieno is the prize
Vol 5: Chancellor Kent sees the distraction of the tournament as the perfect opportunity to deal with some nagging business: namely, Ehren's supporters. Yuna was tricked into sealing the fate of five men, so she and Schiller set out to set things right during the tournament. Yuna's three Guardian Knights are supposed to protect her, but somehow they end up as wanted fugitives.
Vol 6: As Yuna and Kent struggle over control of the government, everyone prepares for the hunt in the Forest of Darkness. Rumors abound that spring will return to Phantasma if the queen falls in love. Can Ehren protect his beloved queen or will her enemies' schemes succeed and doom Yuna and Phantasma forever?
Vol 7: Zombie warriors surround Ehren and Yuna in the middle of the Dark Forest. But as a grueling fight ensues, another enemy attacks! Yuna passes out in all the commotion--will Ehren and the other knights be able to save her amidst the chaos?
Vol 9: As the veil of Queen Freyja’s curse upon Phantasma is slowly lifted, Ehren discovers that all he believed to be true regarding the eternal spring may have been fabricated and that the truth may have painful implications for Yuna. Meanwhile, Yuna experiences unusual changes and no one knows who or what is causing this condition, but as time passes, all signs seem to point to Reino.
Vol 10: Phantasma's dire situation has brought out a change in Ehren Hwerusute. The once warm and loving person has been replaced by someone consumed by rationale and logic, whose sole goal is to save Phantasma from its long-time curse. But his drive prevents him from seeing that the one thing he needs to help the kingdom, the very principal upon which the kingdom is built, is love. Meanwhile, Libera has her own problems when she learns firsthand about the pain love can bring, especially if it's for someone unexpected! And Reino proves he isn't invincible to love either as he confesses his feelings to an unrequited love...
Vol 12: Yuna decides that she loves Phantasma and wishes only for the happiness of its people. For this reason, she requests Ehren to find Rieno so that she can say her last farewells before she fully embraces her duties as Queen. She then throws herself into her work without even stopping for food or sleep in order to rid herself of lingering thoughts of Rieno. Will the strain be too much for Yuna to bear?

Some points:
- Borrowed from ILL.
- I don't remember where I read a good review on this series recently that made me curious to check it out.
- Girl got sucked to another realm and dashing/dark hero bishi with a dark past. Many other bishies to distract her from her true doomed love.
- Yuna is a strong girl. She seems week at the beginning since she's a baby in the family and well protected by 3 big brothers. Eventually, she rises up to the challenge and even ticks off Chancellor Kent. I like her a lot.
- I don't know what to think about Rieno - his name reminds me of Reino in Skip Beat! so I don't really like him even though, he's supposed to be the love interest!
- I like Ehren but starting volume 7, he has an agenda and becomes soulless even Yuna notices his change.
- I like Leon and Schiller - Leon is an eager puppy and Schiller is the cool cat :) definitely big brother type.
- The first 2 volumes set in real world where Yuna went to school get harrassed and be protected by brothers. She does have a crush and a very good friend there.
- Starting volume 3, the story is in Phantasma and she deals with bulliesrivals (Princess) and oppositions (Chancellor Kent) there.

Bottom line, what a fun series too bad we won't know how it ends. It was licensed in French . So ...

  • eta 3 Regarding TP's closing: ann forum page 20 - a comment by belligerent "... I think this is less of an economy problem than it is a problem of disinterest." Emphasis is mine. I am sad about this event but not angry as in the case of CMX. It's really too bad that TP and its CEO are one entity instead of 2 separate ones! In case that it's really the case, why couldn't he just sell the division or let someone else run TP and start a new one for his current interest? eta 3: unless TP was in a worse shape financially than everyone thinks. There are always 2 sides to any story. It's probably unfair for me to think that way. There was manga before TP, there will be more manga after TP. The company did a good job while it lasted and released the books that fans enjoyed. Cheers to them.
  • Nooooooo TP updates From RS: "... titles scheduled for release after May 4 have been canceled." The good news is at least Karakuri Odette and NG Life are complete. No need to talk about the bad news since there are too many titles to list. Sob!
    • Stalking twitter: tanbishugi
    • Venus In Love and Zig*Zag are released by Chuang Yi (a Singaporean publisher) Here is their catalog. They have online shop but according to their faq, if you don't live in Singapore, send them email to request. I'll let you know how if I can order anything :)
    • Alternatively, one can order books from an Australian online store Tamarket, on average, about $20 per book if the order is 4+ books. The shipping cost for one book is $35 Australian + $12 for the book.
    • eta: Kodansha website is live instead of just text :) Kodansha Comics. eta2: Release dates are very prominent here. I'm so pleased!
  • No, I'm not desperate! So I looked at my Venus In Love 9 in Japanese (the rest in French) and Zig*Zag 4-9 and thought, either I have to start learning Japanese or importing books from other places!
