Ordinary high school girl Jina discovers that she is heir to a terrible legacy handed down from her family's sinister history. Long ago, her ancestors killed a magical serpent known as an Imugi, believing that it would bring them good luck. Unfortunately, the creature cursed them as it died, decreeing that one family member of each generation for that day forth will be killed by two people closely acquainted with that person. In this day and age, no one wants to believe in such outmoded superstitions, but one of Jina's relatives has been murdered without fail in every generation. Now, Jina has been informed that she will be next to die...
Some points:
- Borrowed from interlib loan.
- I was curious and since I like Narration of Love at 17 a lot.
- I like Jina and other characters.
- I didn't know it was a horror story.
- Probably will get a netcomics account to read the rest.
Bottom line, I like the first 2 volumes so far.
71b. 2 volumes of Return to the Labyrinth.

From TokyopopThe Goblin King has kept a watchful eye on Toby, his minions secretly protecting the child... Legions of goblins work behind the scenes to ensure that Toby has whatever his heart desires, preparing him for the day when he will return to the Labyrinth and take his rightful place beside Jareth as the heir to the Goblin Kingdom...
That day has come...
But no one has told Toby.
Some points:
- Borrowed from interlib loan.
- I didn't know what to expect, I knew it were related to Labyrinth the movie but didn't know how. A couple chapters in, I realized it's a sequel.
- Interesting.
- Jareth looks great!
Bottom line, probably borrow more to read if they are available.
72. 2 volumes of Gakuen Alice (学園アリス, Gakuen Arisu).

From TokyopopVol 1: Young Mikan runs away to Tokyo following her best friend, Hotaru, who has been enrolled in an exclusive, secretive private school for geniuses. But it turns out that Alice Academy is a lot more than meets the eye. If Mikan wants to stay by Hotaru's side, she has to both pass the strange "entrance exam" and face the even greater challenge of befriending her very odd new classmates. Whether it's Hotaru's gift for inventing gadgets, the cranky Natsume's fire-casting ability, or Professor Narumi's control of human pheromones, everyone at the school has some sort of special talent. But what ability, if any, does Mikan possess? Mikan is going to have to rely on her courage and spunk if she's going to stay in school, or even stay alive!
Vol 2: Mikan is officially admitted into Alice Academy, but things still aren't exactly going smoothly. Natsume still bullies her, her class ranking couldn't be lower, some of the teachers are outright hostile and she has been forbidden to contact anyone outside of the school! Will she be able to find true friends at the academy, or will Mikan be betrayed by the only people she still trusts?
Some points:
- Borrowed from interlib loan.
- I've heard good things about the series, but I've been skeptical.
- It's interesting so far. These elementary children can do a lot and a lot has happened to them. Adults kind of suck! Some of them anyway.
Bottom line, onward to 3.
