I do love Ageha-she's so nosy, but when she messes something up she's really straightforward about apologizing and fixing it. She doesn't just wallow in self pity and let things get even worse. And she's so motivated towards her work! I want to be more like her :D I think the age gap between A and Y is the same as between Kazuha and Maki, as well. But the personalities of the characters themselves cause things to work out differently in each situation, I think. For the most part, Maki doesn't seem bothered by Kazuha's age; I'm also interested in seeing how Hidaka-sensei explores the issue in VBR.
Happy Cafe to me seems very lighthearted/happy-go-lucky so I don't know if the age thing will be an issue, or if it'll just be ignored. What I wonder about is why Uru never seems to go to school!! I agree, glasses are nice. I like characters who wear glasses :D
And yeah, what's up with DelRey? I haven't kept up with Nodame Cantabile, but it seems like many of their series are getting reeeeally slow releases. The final volume of minima! took so long to come out that I almost totally forgot about it. And I haven't seen any new Hockey Club since June (with no new volumes on amazon)! I hope they're doing alright.
"What I wonder about is why Uru never seems to go to school!!" I think she does in later volumes, I see covers of her in uniforms :) I'm thinking the author tries to setup the story at the cafe first - and school is secondary. I don't the age difference is an issue, either. Ren was just uptight or he just wanted to have an excuse. In the long run, 4 or 7 years difference isn't that big a deal, you know.
Nodame Cantabile was completed last year in Japan. I'm thinking they have to renegotiate the license. I remember hearing ongoing series are only licensed by the number of volumes have been published in japan. So, they probably need to negotiate for NC vol 17 til end again. I don't think they are in trouble since Tsubasa seems to be on schedule and they have random house behind them. Or maybe they are planning to release them in omnibus - like Mushi-shi the last 3 will be out in one!
Yeah, maybe she will go to class eventually! It's what, 13 volumes? So the characters will have to do something with all that space. But somehow the series seems less based in reality to me (in my head I sometimes compare it to VBR: the basic setup is very similar, but carried out so differently in each series), so I wouldn't be surprised or even all that bothered if it never showed Uru in school. I agree that Ren and Kyoko have more issues than just the age (it probably is just an excuse...).
Oh, it could be they're planning an omnibus release... I noticed DelRey (as well as other companies) has been doing more of those lately. I need to read Mushi-shi (how many volumes will it be?). Aaagh, when will I get to all these titles??

"Oh, it could be they're planning an omnibus release"
Fingers crossed!
Mushi-shi has 7 single volumes and 8-10 will be the omnibus - maybe your library has it?
